Colin Powell sprinkles gasoline on racial fires of resentment

For reasons known only to himself, Colin Powell chose to heighten racial tensions with an ignorant comment. Evan McMurray of Mediaite reports:

On CBS' Face the Nation, former Secretary of State Colin Powell called the George Zimmerman verdict into question, alleging "questionable judgment on the part of the judicial system," but doubting the case would serve as a generative example for judicial reforms.

"I think that it will be seen as a questionable judgment on the part of the judicial system down there, but I don't know if it will have staying power," Powell said. "These cases come along, and they blaze across the midnight sky and then after a period of time, they're forgotten."

The notion that a judicial system makes judgments is incoherent. Only juries render verdicts after sitting through presentations of evidence. But Powell ignores that and instead indicts the "judicial system." Did Powell follow every hour of the trial, and spend as many hours as the jurors did examining evidence? I seriously doubt it, and that makes his opinion on the justice of the verdict questionable.

Powell’s looking for a job in a future Democratic administration, so burnishing his leftist credentials

Perhaps he’s hoping Hillary is looking for a so-called “moderate” for a VP slot?

The doctrine of vicarious liability . . .

20+ years ago the $PLC won a civil law suit against Tom Metzger, his son, and his white supremacist group. The suit was on behalf of a victim of a vicious murder by skinheads of a defenseless black man.

"Using the doctrine of vicarious liability, plaintiffs' attorneys argued that the Metzgers should be found liable for intentionally inciting the skinheads to engage in violent confrontations with minorities. A jury agreed, returning a record $12.5 million verdict against the Metzgers and WAR. Tom Metzger was personally responsible for $5.5 million of that sum."

IIRC the skinheads were not members of WAR and the only influence WAR had on the skinheads was its public audio messages of hate. Kind of like the MSM.

Where do the haters get their hatred? Colin Powell? Their family and friends? The lucrative civil rights and victims' industries? Sharpton? Jessie Jackson? ABCNNBCBS? The Nytimese? The Latimese? Where?

If it hasn’t any staying power then just maybe the argument is unsound.
This was clearly an act of self defense and the activities that lead up to it were all legal and just. A owner has the right to patrol his property and challenge visitors.

Back in 2004, I had the temerity to point out that Colon Bowel was everything we now know him to be: an Affirmative Action baby, who makes racist overtures to the Left to secure his viability as a celebrity.

I very nearly got flamed off Free Republic by A-list FReepers, screaming that I was a racist and a bigot for daring to impugn a Republican rising star.

Well, here we are, nine years later, time has proven me right, and the A-listers can take a nice big 44-oz swig of “I Told You So” latte with a side order of STFU!

Powell does not need to burnish his leftist credentials. He has waived them all his life. This is just another example of a field hand getting moveed up to the house.

Had I been here then, I would have agreed with you a thousand percent. HE is one of the main reasons I am in the predicament I am in.

The cults of personality on FR are strong...fleeting, but strong nonetheless, with the possible exception of SP followers.

It was pretty well known back when that he was nothing more than a political general, a semi-empty suit.

There have only been a few generals who made good presidents or high ranking politicians. Most have had too much sunshine pumped up their skirts to understand real people and real national problems.

Why won’t reporters ask: “How many hours of the x thousand hours of testimony did you personally watch?”
