Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., explained to a town hall of his constituents that he wanted to call a national Constitutional Convention after reading Mark Levin’s new book, The Liberty Amendments.
“I used to have a great fear of constitutional conventions,” Coburn said according to the Tulsa World. “I have a great fear now of not having one.”
As the Tulsa World notes, a national convention is called by two-thirds of the state legislatures and is one of two ways the U.S. Constitution can be amended.
Coburn made his remarks in Muskogee, Okla.
And just a note.
This is NOT a constitutional convention. I’m not sure why everyone is calling it that. It is a convention to PROPOSE and discuss and debate ideas for possible amendments.
Then the STATES can vote up or down to ratify the amendments once the convention has come up with a what they want to propose.
It is not a complete rewrite of the constitution.
And Congress really doesn’t have any say one way or another - many on here act like we need to get permission from Congress to do this, or need them to run the show. People cant seem to wrap their heads around the idea that this is done entirely by the states.
Yeah!
(I truly believe this is our last hope before either tyranny or civil war. We don’t want to go there if there is ANY civil or political answer to the criminal state of our government.)
During the Obama Administration? I think we’ve been down this road before during Weimar.

If they don’t have the book, verbally request or fill out a form online at the library’s web site, requesting them to get the book. I do it all the time.
I'm not so sure about that. The original Constitutional Convention was not supposed to completely rewrite the Articles of Confederation either, but it did anyway.
There is no guarantee that the same thng won't happen in another ConCon. Once a ConCon is called, it can do whatever it wants as long as the states ratify its decisions. Once a ConCon is called there is nothing in the Constitution that says Congress can limit or stop a ConCon's actions. In fact a ConCon could in theory even abolish Congress. Once convoked the only ones who can stop a runaway ConCon are the states who refuse to ratify its decisions.

Darn tootin’ I’m short sighted. Exactly how long do we think we have to engage in parlor debate over what the Constitution should look like 20 years from now, while the left steamrollers what freedoms we have left?
“We need to see who comes down on what side; who says what and who doesn’t ; who gaffes and risks their political viability; who forms “gangs” with whom to support, compromise, or foil.”
Why? We already have a pretty good idea of who will stand with us and who won’t. The push to defund owebamacare is yet another illustration. Count how many people push to defund and you’ve got a pretty good idea of where we stand and who stands with us. While we might not like it, the plain truth is that conservatives are a relatively small minority in Congress. Maybe 15 in the Senate on a good day, and 75-80 in the House.

I’m thinking that the underlying purpose of this exercise in futility is exactly that: to bog the conservative grassroots down in a futile exercise to change the Constitution while the gop/’rat uniparty continues to steamroll what freedoms we have left. I think that’s why it’s getting some traction and attention.
On the face it’s plainly a dumb idea. The numbers aren’t there and never will be. So why pursue it?

The only bad outcome of a con con is that it works and prevents Civil War II - Red vs Blue because the “tree of liberty” is in desperate need of it’s drinkeepoo.

A caller to Mark Levin said she was one of Coburn’s constituents, and that Coburn told her at a town hall meeting that Mark’s book “The Liberty Amendments” has had a substantial impact on him.

You’re the one who’s hiding under the bed because you think Socialists and RINOs would be running the show. That means it’s up to you to explain how they would be allowed to do it.

a constitutional convention? absolutely not. too dangerous considering who is running the show these days. we could lose it ALL.
