'Muslims peaked in the Dark Ages. But since then?': Richard Dawkins embroiled in Twitter row

The author of The God Delusion tweeted that the world's Muslims had won fewer Nobel Prizes than Trinity College, Cambridge His comments sparked anger among high-profile Twitter users including Caitlin Moran and Faisal Islam

One wrote: ‘Dawkins spent the best part of 10 years attacking Christianity and not raising an eyebrow.

He now turns that same eye on Islam and uproar.’

An Emeritus Fellow at New College, Oxford, Professor Dawkins appeared to try and appease his critics by saying that Trinity College also has more Nobel Prizes than any country in the world except America, Britain, Germany and France.

The Cambridge college has 32 Nobel laureates, whereas only 10 laureates are thought to have been Muslim.

Mr Islam said that Professor Dawkins’ claims were wrong, arguing that he should not have included prizes won for economics.

He wrote that over the last two decades, ‘it’s 8-4 against Trinity. I say this as a Muslim alumnus of Trinity College, Cambridge.’

He added that if Professor Dawkins ‘had any clue what he was talking about, he’d know to trip out the Economic Nobels, which aren’t quite real.’

Professor Dawkins found himself in the spotlight earlier this year when he took on the former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams in a debate at Cambridge.

The author branded religion a ‘betrayal of the intellect’ and ‘a betrayal of all that’s best about what makes us human’.

He also said: ‘If I were a cultural Muslim, I would have something to say about that faith’s appalling attitude to women and various other moral points.’

He has been saying the same things about Christians for a long long time and the leftists always gave him 100% support.

He’s under the bus now.

He forgets that leftism itself is a religion

Richard has never before dealt with people who behead you for disagreeing with them.

You mean he's going to go after the Cult of Homosexuals too?

Oh well. The muslims can correct this. Just arrange to have a Nobel for genocide and another for torture. They’ll corner the market, just like the Jews have cornered it for the real Nobels.

Are we pretending that the Nobel Peace Prize is real - giving Islam points for Obama and Anwar al-Sadat?

In any case, talking about when Islam peaked is like talking about the peak of the Marianas Trench - unimpressive even if it is a relative high point.

In Islam there is no room for open, free debate and exchange of intellectual ideas as in Cambridge or any other center for higher learning. There is no such thing as compromise and balance.

This is why Islam as a religion keeps it's adherents stuck in the 7th century which their fingers up their bums instead of building civilization and moving forward.
They are in a reset-anger-blowup-kill-reset-anger-blowup-kill cycle since the Middle Ages.

On the other hands, Christians can’t convince their own adherents to follow or protect the religion.

"Richard has never before dealt with people who behead you for disagreeing with them."

Or shank you while you're standing in line for a Latte, which is much, much likelier. Whatever one's opinion of Mr Dawkins, one would be hard pressed to describe his public criticism of Islam as less than bold, or perhaps suicidal.

Hope he carries. He'll likely need to before long.

Christianity has opened itself up to too much self-criticsm and doubt. It's a lot easier to be secular and do whatever the heck you want (in a consumer society) than adhere to some form of self-control and respect. The Churches need to somehow (?) unite or begin merging.

Judaism is united by one Torah. Religiosity is based on how much Law to accept and practice but all agree on the central tennent.

Islam is united (kind of) by the Koran though the different sects kill each other for fun.

Christianity is not united, too many derivations I think. At least they don't kill each other today as they did in the past, like Islam today.

The Church is a divided house.

I dunno . . . if you wanna talk about “aren’t quite real,” I’d start with the “Peace” prize. Speaking of which, what did Mr. Obama do with that money given to him by a foreign power (the Peace Prize committee being a creature of the Norwegian government), anyway?
But then, if it’s macro “economics” we’re talking about, the man would definitely have a point.

Only the Physics, Chemistry, Physiology, and Economics prizes are real.

The Literature and Peace prizes are awarded based on politics and “fairness”.
