New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesnt just want to limit the use of cigarettes but electronic cigarettes as well.
In a newly leaked draft of three tobacco-related bills soon to be voted on by the NYC City Council, the new definition of tobacco products under city law would be changed to include e-cigarettes and related components, parts and accessories. If the ordinances pass, the display of e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco would be banned in retail stores.
Also, while tobacco and menthol flavored e-cigarettes would still be available in retail stores, all other flavored e-cigarettes could only be sold in age-restricted tobacco bars. But theres a catch. New York City prohibits the operation of tobacco bars that werent opened before December 31, 2001.

Nanny State PING!
Bloomberg makes the average pile of dog obama on a sidewalk look downright smart.
I don’t know why any sane person would live in New York or any other northern Hell hole.
Wasn’t it William Buckley who said liberals live in fear that someone, somewhere, might be enjoying themselves?
People who buy electronic cigarettes do not buy real cigarettes in the same amount.
“It’s the taxes, stupid.” :)
Because I have no other choice. If I had the means, I’d leave.
At some point, you’ll have to leave whether you want to or not. At least now, you can put away a couple of dollars here and there until you have your bus ticket.
Sure is
E-cigs are taxed like regular products
Cigarettes are taxed $1.01/pack (federal)
Combined NY State and City tax is at $5.85/pack
That's some high tax revenue there.
New York City sales tax is 8.875%
For a $10 e-cig - that's only 89 cents.
What does The Great Dictator want to ban now?
No, there’s no means yet. Trying to find a job here is like trying to find oil here with a shovel. It just doesn’t happen.
Everything that’s fun?
Bloomberg is a nanny. But while I think they are a safer alternative for people who are addicted to nicotine, they are also unquestionably a drug deliver device, and as such it is inevitable that the FDA will step in and impose regulations, sooner or later.
Thanks for the ping!
Understandable.
So is my coffee, mug should that be regulated by the FDA?
and I always thought that mr Bloomberg only wanted a return to the America of the once great Christian middle class.
So, quite frankly, it's the e-smoker's problem and they're not bothering non-smokers, so why hound them?
He would also have to ban all other sources of water vapor. Banning steam in NYC seems farfetched but nothing is beyond Bloomie’s desire for complete control.
