Ted Koppel Writes the Dumbest Op-Ed About Terrorism You Can Imagine

August 10, 2013

By Daniel Greenfield

When you saw the name “Ted Koppel”, your first reaction was probably to wonder if he was still alive. The answer is, yes. He is.

Your second reaction was probably to wonder if he was still the same smug boring media personality reciting liberal truisms at the speed of a snail.

The answer also yes.

And for some reason the Wall Street Journal gave Ted Koppel editorial space to write one of those “The only real danger from terrorism is if we hit terrorists too hard” op-eds from 2002.

Ted may be getting a bit senile and probably thinks we’re on the verge of the Iraq War. The WSJ has no such excuse.

June 28, 2014, will mark the 100th anniversary of what is arguably the most eventful terrorist attack in history. That was the day that Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb, shot and killed the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne.

... If there should ever be a terrorists’ Hall of Fame, Gavrilo Princip will surely deserve consideration as its most effective practitioner.

Terrorism, after all, is designed to produce overreaction. It is the means by which the weak induce the powerful to inflict damage upon themselves—and al Qaeda and groups like it are surely counting on that as the centerpiece of their strategy.

The problem with Ted Koppel’s argument is that Gavrilo Princip was backed by the Serbian government. Shouldn’t Austria-Hungary have declared war on a country that assassinated the heir to its throne?

...

WWI wasn’t being fought about terrorism. The proximate trigger of an escalating conflict is not necessarily about the trigger. Ted Koppel claiming that WWI was about terrorism is not only ahistorical, it’s retarded....

Perhaps it’s an argument to support blaming GZ for any future race war.

Ted Koppel is a dinosaur relic of the big three traitor networks that took it upon themselves to become kingmakers and President breakers.

They didn’t do this subconsciously; it was deliberate and purposeful. Adding insult to injury, they continued, even to this day, to insist how unbiased they were/are. They actually believe their heinous work was a needed public service that brought good to this country.

They beat good men and women down and propped up worthless tyrants of ideology and have left us with a legacy of deceit, deviousness and distrust.

Ted Koppel is one of them. I hope he rots in his old age.

Love it. Ted Koppel and his kind live in a bubble. It is nice to see someone call him out for his stupidity.

Actually the heir to the throne wasn't killed. He and his wife were found on the Riviera a year after WWI ended. WWI was a mistake.

(/satire if needed)

When Push comes to Shove, all wars are about greed. The greed takes different forms, of course, but it is greed nonetheless. Excuses as to “why” are just that: Excuses. Muslims are greedy, and zealously so. But then, so are most politicians. Power, money, marbles, houses, land, all of it is about greed.

Did the “overreaction” produce more terrorists who went around assassinating crown princes? Who was the “government” of Serbia, anyway? It was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and Russia got involved when Germany insisted on joining Austria in a punitive action against the Serbs, which then involved France, which then sucked in Turkey on the side of Germany and Austria, and England on the side of France. I don’t think Princip wanted a world war per se, so much as a united Greater Serbia. The war itself was as retarded as Ted Koppel’s article, but the fallout from that war is still going on today, while the words of that dingus will be forgotten tomorrow.

I always thought that Koppel was one of the dimmest bulb’s in journalism, and I knew I had never been wrong when he went to Vietnam to make his own “investigation” of the “Swift Boat” veterans’ charges against John Kerry and showed himself as a giant dupe to boot, when he simply accepted the “eye witness” reports arranged for him by the communist dictators in Vietnam; upon which the issue was for him “case closed”.

The problem with Ted Koppel’s argument is that Gavrilo Princip was backed by the Serbian government.

The government of Austria-Hungary may certainly have believed that to be the case. However, I don't believe any evidence of that has come out in the 100 years since.
