RIYADH—Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah announced a $100 million gift for a U.N. counterterrorism center, declaring that religious extremism in the wake of the Arab Spring posed a greater danger to the Arab community at large "than the weapons of our visible enemies."

The urgent tone of the king's warning, in a statement Wednesday night marking the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, emphasized the continuing concerns by the world's leading oil producer over security in the aftermath of revolutions that started in late 2010 elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa.

Saudi Arabia has arguably emerged from the popular uprisings as the region's most influential political power, and as the most active opponent of Islamically oriented political movements and Islamically driven armed groups. Critics charge that the kingdom also often cracks down on rights activists at home, efforts the government has said are in the name of fighting terror.

I think some Saudi prince handed a UN official the check and said "Now dance, puppet, dance. That's what you're paid to do."

Window dressing. If he wanted it to stop, it would stop.He is the King.

He uses Islamic extremism to keep the peasants focused on hating infidels instead of his fat-assed family.

Abdullah knows that the Islamists want to topple him as well as Mubarek, Assad, and Gaddafi. Perhaps more so, as he rules Mecca.

I wonder if beheading rape victims is extreme. If he wants to fight extremism it would be a lot cheaper for him to buy a round and put the bullet in his own temple.

“They have funded schools all over the world that teach extremism.”

Perhaps the translation should have read “to spread extremism”. I believe him as much as I believe obma.

“...declaring that religious extremism in the wake of the Arab Spring posed a greater danger to the Arab community at large “than the weapons of our visible enemies.”

The House of Saud fears more for its own survival in the wake of these uprisings. “Religious extremism” (how ironic coming from Saudi Arabia) is merely a convenient cover story.

I’m still trying to figure out who Saudi Arabia considers their “visible enemies”. The only two things I can come up with are Israel (convenient scapegoat) and their own citizens.

The 19 Saudis who committed the murder of our citizens on 9/11 became terrorists in this clown’s “kingdom.” The sooner the USA stops buying their oil, the sooner this part of the world can be turned over to the tender teachings of Murdering Mo. But NO asylum should be granted in this country to any of these low-lifes.
