Well, I'm a leading edge Boomer, and I remember some of the 50's styles, featuring pink and black nylon shirts, pointy white shoes, and skin-tight pants--the hipster look.
In my opinion, no man should ever wear pastels or bright colors. The ideal color for a man's shirt would be the color of John McClain's wife-beater shirt in the last few scenes of "Die Hard."
I'm always on the look-out for interesting earth tones when I buy shirts for my husband or father, but a typical polo shirt will come in 20 different colors, of which only about 4 are good subtle colors--and those are the ones that are usually sold out! Shouldn't that tell the manufacturer that men (and the women who buy their clothes) don't want magenta or lime green shirts.

Ah, but that was back in the day, centuries before women wore high heels when womanly dress involved not showing legs, and men wore high heels to make their legs more symmetric and alluring to women, rather than the other way around.
Personally, I think reviving some older elements of manly fashion (*not* high heels) like cloaks, capes, morning coats, waistcoats, and maybe hose and doublet wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Of course, it would make it easier to be a fop than it is when acceptable men’s clothing (formal evening wear aside) ranges from jeans and a t-shirt to a three-piece suit with tie and French-cuffed shirt.
