NY firearms maker blames new law for move to Pa.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A firearms manufacturer in New York, partially blaming the state's new gun control law, said Wednesday it's moving its corporate offices — and its plans for expansion — to Pennsylvania. Kahr Firearms Group of Pearl River is the first gunmaker to announce it's leaving because of the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, which was put into law after closed-door negotiations in January. It was the first law in the nation prompted by the killing of 20 first-graders and six educators in Newtown, Conn., in December. "We're looking for a more friendly environment for our business," said Frank Harris, Kahr's vice president for sales and marketing. "Maybe we could have stayed here and built a plant, but the way the bill was passed left us feeling there were a lot of uncertainties going forward."

Pennsylvania isn't as bad for gun rights as New York (short of California, what is?), but it's not as if they're moving into a gun-friendly state. There are states that are a lot better for gun companies than PA.

PA is about as gun-friendly as you get in the Northeast.

Well, Vermont has Constitutional Carry, but otherwise they are a bunch of socialist loons.

Should have moved much further south like a few hundred miles below the Mason Dixon Line.

Isn't New Hampshire pretty good for gun rights? The Brady Campaign only gives them 6 points out of 100 for gun control, so they must be doing something right...!

They should come to NC. We’ve got Remington corporate and just scored a Ruger plant in the same small town.

Sort of like going from the frying pan into another frying pan which isn’t quite as hot.

You crazy? Pennsylvania is one of the most gun friendly states there is. A lot better than most southern states.

Shall issue CCW (15 days and $45)

Class III is easy.

Assault weapons? Buy as many as you want.

Castle doctrine. Stand your ground. Shoot a thug and the DA will shake your hand.

When Philly tries to "pass sensible gun control" they are struck down in a heart beat (after paying a fine)

The Brady Campaign ranks it as the 10th strongest state in terms of gun control, so I presumed that the climate there wasn't that good...I stand corrected.

Are you kidding me?

Section 21 . Right to Bear Arms
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

Open carry is allowed.....even TX was not OC until recently (no bans drinking in bars etc)

No classes for CCW

Class 3 weapons allowed (machine guns etc)

CCW is shall issue

Almost 1M CCW citizens.

The largest gun store in the world (Cabela’s in Hamburg PA).

Sounds like you have not a clue what you are talking about.

Where do you get your information? Pennsylvania is the militia capital of the world. Nobody messes with the Second Amendment here. Plus, it’s one of the easiest states to get a concealed carry permit (I think only Vermont is easier - - no permit is even needed there).

Just go to the sheriff’s office at the courthouse with $15 and proof of residency in your county and voila!, you walk out in 15 minutes with a CC permit in your wallet, good for 5 years. You don’t have to take any courses or have a hunting license or express any reason for wanting a CC permit - - you don’t even have to own a gun.

So yeah, compared not only to New York but to most states Pennsylvania is a very good relocation destination for this firearms company.

Forgot Castle Doctrine.

And no limit on gun purchases. I have done this several times.

Traveling from Niagara Falls to the Thousand Islands today, I saw an incredible number of “Repeal the SAFE Act” signs in people’s yards...

Sounds like you have not a clue what you are talking about.

Mea culpa, mea maximima culpa. I simply presumed that since the Brady campaign gave grudging approval to the PA's gun laws (2 stars, 10th highest ranking for gun control) that things weren't great there. As I said earlier, I stand corrected.

I own a Kahr CW9. It’s a perfect size for me and fun to shoot.
