NEW YORK -- Employees of the Class A Brooklyn Cyclones, a New York Mets affiliate, arrived at work Wednesday morning to find a swastika and racial and anti-Semitic epithets painted on a statue of Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese that is on display outside MCU Park.
...
"This is being treated as a bias crime," detective John Nevandro of the 60th precinct said in a statement. "Hate Crimes will investigate the incident."

You could tell this some idiot did this
Did he or she put a hoodie, Skittles and Arizona watermelon juice on the statue?
Crimes are crimes. Vandalism is vandalism.
Not only is there no need for “hate crimes” but they are counter to the founding of this country as they are getting into the region of thought crimes where the government is able to prosecute you for what you are thinking.
We let the camel get its nose in the tent when we did nothing the first time some scum of a politician/lawyer first proposed “hate crime” legislation.
I’m betting it was actually done by a non-white.
You win.
You’ve got some kids with too much time on their hands. That’s all you’ve got here.
I put $20 on this being a false flag incident done by black Leftist racists, or white Leftist racists.
You are so correct.
Hate crimes seek to protect certain groups from harm, while not giving equal protection to other groups: when I was skinny some drunk muscle heads yelled "Skinny!" and threw a bottle at me.
Why aren't skinny people protected by hate crime laws?
It could have been a statue of Millard Filmore, Moe Howard or the Jolly Green Giant. Results likely the same. This is Brooklyn.
It wasn’t Tawana Brawley was it?
The neighborhood is higher than 99% free ice-cream voters.
It's about mutual respect and friendship - in the face of a hostile environment - between two teammates on the Brooklyn Dodgers, one a southern white Christian, captain of this legendary team, the other the first black playing organized professional baseball in the twentieth century. Both men eventually entered the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Incidentally, the author of this article was remiss in failing to even mention "Brooklyn Dodgers" in the story.
Add my $1000.
+1
P.S. -- Your post is a "Thought Crime".
;-)
The moment depicted on the statue probably never happened, the nearest documented incident was in 1948, in Boston, far from Reese’s hometown, and after Robinson was already Rookie of the Year in 1947, and had moved from first base to second.
Nonetheless, Reese was a stand up guy, a true gentleman, and a leader. I loved the movie “42”, btw, even if it took a few liberties with historical accuracy.
“I’ve got $5 on this one winning the false flag trifecta.”
I agree; between the affiliation with the Mets (I’ve only met one white American that is a fan) and the fact that it is Coney Island makes me suspicious.
I know other white Mets fans, but they are all foreigners who came here in the late 1960s.
Sorry, I believe it was either described in contemporaneous newspaper coverage of the game, or even photographed at the time.
Reese, BTW, was from Louisville, which, IIRC, is about 120 miles from Cincinnati.
Neo Nazis hate Pee Wee Reese.
Everybody knows that.
Some gay soccer fan, no doubt.
I’ll go with morons of some type. Jackie Robinson was a great athlete and a significant figure in sports history, and should be treated as such.
