The trial of Major Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people and wounding dozens more in a Fort Hood shooting rampage, was temporarily halted today when a lawyer objected that Hasan was putting up no defense in an effort to get himself executed.
The lawyer's concern brings a touch of the absurd to the trial. Hasan was prevented from pleading guilty because that would have eliminated a trial and the option of a death sentence.
But his feeble defense -- in his opening statement Hasan said, "I am the shooter" -- may ultimately backfire if an appeals court finds his defense was so poor that his trial could not be considered fair.
The government has spent four years and $5 million to guarantee Hasan is given an airtight trial that concludes with a guilty verdict and the possibility of a death sentence....

The man did the shooting. He admits it. He revels in it. Everyone knows it.
Where is Che when you need him?
He was caught in the act of killing.
He was not a psychopath; he was cognizant and intelligent.
He should have had a trial of his peers and shot in the same week.
This is INJUSTICE, not justice.

He’s suicidal so he’s not competent to decide if we should execute him?
Let the guy have his wish.
Our government wants to make sure he has a fair shot of getting off, even though he admits he did it.
Turn him loose and put him out in the street for about two minutes and he will get his wish. Hopefully, someone with a knife will give him a proper Muslim shave below the chin. Then he can gurgle Allah Akbar until his last breath.
I’ll be the executioner for $1 million (after taxes, of course).
Is this a prelude to all those other trials Obama/Holder want to hold for the captured terrorists?
Am I forgetting why he isn’t having a military trial?
Why is this even in the courts?
It should be in front of a military tribunal and he should get life on the top floor of Leavenworth. (No air conditioning Perpetual boot camp for him.)

For justice we should waterboard him until he qualifies for federal wetland status.
Then he should be killed in an excruciating and very slow way. His remains should be provided is small bits to a thousand pig farms.
That is what should happen. Justice is limited by the 8th Amendment. So long as he never escapes, I am happy. I would like him executed to make him beyond the reach of the current resident’s pardon power.
The thought of our GIs going to this POS for psychiatric advice is sick and disturbing.
They should start a lottery for people to contribute to the victim’s families, in exchange for a chance at the firing squad.

with Obama and the docile, greedy Congress.
Suppose ta be. But zer0 did some judge shopping when the perp demanded a beard. Now it is a joke trial for the purpose of making this 'workplace violence' to use as anti gun propaganda.
In Hasan’s, and radical Islam’s, view of things, the fact that he is alive 4 years after the fact, he has a public stage for his proclamations, and the US Gov’t is fumbling and bumbling his case - all means that his cause is just, Allah is protecting him, and Allah is confounding and confusing his enemies and the enemies of Islam.
Is the US trying to lose this case on purpose?
