Downers Grove business owner and West Point graduate Doug Truax (True-axe) will announce Monday morning he is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for Illinois’ senate seat currently held by Dick Durbin.

“Dick Durbin and his crew have been in charge in Illinois and the United States for years. Their policies are not working, yet they continue to pursue them again and again as we sink deeper into economic stagnation,” Truax says in an announcement video posted to Youtube.

What's the consensus on this candidate. Very tough race. Dick Durbin is a political heavyweight, but perhaps Illinois is getting tired of rats. Stranger things have happened.

Perhaps True-Axe will take an axe to the central socialist government.

He’s already 100% more qualified than Little Dick. He is a graduate of the USMA and a businessman.

Get behind him.

I wish this guy luck, but in Illinois with the Chicago Fraud machine it is a big uphill fight.

Durbin has only been a United States Senator since 1997, however, it seems like forever.

His last challenger was very weak. If 2014 is a wave election though, as many second term mid-terms are, I think this guy has a shot.

You never know with Illinois. They elected Peter Fitzgerald in 1998, throwing out Carol Mosely Braun, then six years later, Fitzgerald knew he wasn’t going to get reelected so he retired and Obama won. Then Ron Kirk took Obama’s seat in 2010.

Durbin’s the majority whip and is very powerfulf but it’s worth a shot!

When New Year’s comes, I’m going to compile a list of conservative candidates I think we should get behind, whether they’re challenging incumbent Republicans, Democrats, or running for open seats.

I’m gonna take a look at the House as well, but that might take a while.

I’ve also been keeping a spreadsheet of who’s announced or may be announcing. Erick Erickson on Redstate had an article today that lists some people that he may be getting behind.

Any list should include what their money resources are,
whether they are life long liberals who are republican as an opportunity,

viability is key, there should be some kind of crackpot rating. (ala kookpaul)

He’s a longshot at best. Illinois is just as addicted to it’s long-service pols as any other state is. And it’s still a very blue state in the bargain.

Yes, there may be very good candidates on the issues who are just hopeless in terms of mounting a campaign, so many factors have to be taken into account (and we must avoid crackpots like Kurt Bills from Minnesota)

Things seem to be shaping up, but its too early because we don’t know all of the candidates who might run. Obviously if Sarah Palin runs in Alaska, that changes the calculations there dramatically.

Right now, I’m pretty dead set with Arkansas and North Carolina. Louisiana is too murky, and there are ultra-RINOS dominating the races in WV and SD.

I’ll give Erick’s list a look. He’s usually a good barometer for candidates.

Hey, we got Kirk. I know he’s a total flake, but he was elected. Tricky Dick Durbin should have retired with Baucus and the others.

Do you honestly think he's going to be re-elected in 2016? He's had health issues and you know the Dems will do a full court press to get the seat back. He only one by a point or two to begin with.

I would guess he’ll retire, but his razor thin win in the blue state was similar to other victories in blue states. Toomey in PA, Brown in Mass.

I’m not saying the race is Iowa competitive, but if the candidate is good, I’m willing to give it a shot.
