Gay couples began tying the knot at Minneapolis City Hall early Thursday and preparing to do so once town clerks' offices opened in Rhode Island, as the two states became the latest to allow same-sex marriage.
The Minnesota law allowed weddings to begin just after midnight Wednesday, and 42 couples were to be married by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and several Hennepin County judges in the hours before dawn.
"I didn't expect to cry quite that hard," said a beaming Cathy ten Broeke, who with Margaret Miles was the first gay couple to be wed at City Hall.
The attending crowd burst into applause as Rybak pronounced Miles and ten Broeke married. The couple stood nearby embracing their 5-year-old son, Louie.

Meanwhile, town clerks were to begin issuing Rhode Island's first marriage licenses to same-sex couples later Thursday morning. Well, as I stand in horror contemplating the consequences unfolding across this once great nation of ours, within the freedom we so valiantly, gallantly fought for,I see the very seed of our destruction, because there is a price to be paid for the "freedom" they believe is free, there will be a price to pay, wrought by, in the decadence, depravity that knows no bounds, the moral turpitude that emphatically says, calls out, that there is a price too dear, a sacrifice too burdensome, even for the divine, lofty ideals and principles that freedom is, has wrought, one that ultimately is not freedom at all.
They’ll wake up in a month and say “Uh-oh, what did we do?”.
My brother-in-law and I were thinking of building a gay wedding chapel facing one of Minnesota’s lakes with the main entrance in the rear of the building.
Heh. Sorta like me and the ex-wife.
Except it wasn’t a month in my case. It was the following morning.
You have two guys living together and they get married. One day, one of them starts talking about OUR stuff. OUR cars. OUR house. OUR money.
The other one gets in a panic. He signed up for the “Look at us, we are having a show for everyone to watch”, not “community property”.
It is a most familiar sight to all in the fancy Co-ops, condominiums throughout the city about bringing items up to the residences, the front entrance festooned with the sign "All Deliveries Through The Rear".
My position has been that homosexuals have no right to be legally sheltered from the same screwing that I and millions of other men are subjected to every year at the hands of the divorce industry. They want “marriage?” Let them have it. It’s not like it would be doing them any favors.
