Ryan Suggests Immigration Bills Could Evade 'Hastert Rule'(Curtain is closing on GOP brand)

Video posted first by left-wing site ThinkProgress shows House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) during a recent town hall meeting in Racine, Wisconsin discussing trying to find a way around the Hastert Rule in bringing immigration reform bills to the floor of the House. A transcript of the exchange is below:

QUESTIONER: One of the biggest frustrations we’re seeing right now is hearing Speaker Boehner, that he’s going to follow the Hastert Rule. That he’s not going to bring any of these bills forward unless they have a majority support of the majority party. What’s your position, should you maintain that?

RYAN: [...] Bringing these bills to the floor, we’ll find out. It is not, “they don’t come to the floor unless we have a majority of the majority,” because we don’t know if we have a majority until we vote on it. So here’s where I see things going. I’ve spoken to John Boehner as recently as three days ago about this, which is, we all agree it is better to legislate in stages instead of one big thousand plus page bill that no one has read. [...] I’m trying to get to a consensus so a majority of us do support those component parts. I believe that’s achievable because when people really look at the details and they focus on what’s right, I believe what I’ve just laid out is something that a consensus of Republicans and Democrats can agree to.

This is great - there are no moral issues.

GOP leadership says it will honor a rule - unless it is inconvenient to them.

Destruction is imminent for our Constitution.

This is BS anyway. Pelosi always counted the vote before putting bills on floor.

Just because He and Bohner put up bills without a count doesnt mean they have to do that.

Typical Paul Ryan BS.

Unfortunately, we know that is the case with anyone on either Boehner of McConnell’s leadership team.

The GOPe is rotten to the core.

The only question I have for Ryan is: “How much did you pocket to sell out your constituents?”

Wow, remember around this time last year when Romney picked him as his running mate we all thought it was awesome because he brought some “conservative” cred to the ticket, or so we thought. He’s all wrong on immigration. Did Boehner get to this guy too or are we seeing the real Paul Ryan in his RINO glory?

That suggests that Ryan is no better than the Dems who ramrodded Obamacare through Congress.

Is Ryan really interested in higher office or is he just interested in getting a stack of payoff money like his buddy Rubio got after the Senate bill passed?

Folks...is there now any doubt an alternative conservative party must be formed?

I hear all the time,”whah whah, we oughtah take back the party, whah whah we can vote’em out...yea yea vote’em out.”

One friend of mine insisted during McCain's campaign...we just need to drag him across the finish line. Then he said the same exact thing during Romney's run. Well, he’z not perfect, but we gotta drag him across the finish line.

He’z since changed his position.

It should have been obvious for some time. Paul Ryan voted for the auto bailouts. He was a key member in forcing the House to pass the $700 Billion bank bailout bill. The fact that massive bailouts and Trillion dollar deficits are thought by many to be acceptable now owes in no small part to his actions, despite his rhetoric.

Ryan an Rubio have been huge disappointments on this issue. And Toomey was a Traitor on guns.

The only 2 I trust now are Rand Paul and Ted Cruz. Hope they don’t let me down to.

I feel like a many without a party.

Any Bill coming out of the House will be taken by the Senate and turned into their Bill.

The only way to beat it is to not vote on it.

Ryan knows this, but he is obviously for the Senate Bill.

I guess Ryan is for raping 9 month old babies and 93 year old grandma’s to death by illegal aliens. Or the drug pack mule dreamers. No might be the ones who drink a case of cervesa and drive killing random nuns or other citizens.

Does anything bother these elected representatives of the American citizen or is everything for sale like hookers on crack in the district of criminals.

P.S. Don’t try the direct approach you need to hire a “lobbyist” (pimp) as a go between to funnel the fees for good government. They are all for sale if the price is right.

Makes you wonder who they really represent and it doesn’t seem to be the ones who elected them.
