I’d say “sincerely” (there may or may not be degrees of fervor involved with handing one’s erring life back over to the Lord, but it should be sincerely).

The two are not the same. We have a sinful nature which we always struggle against and can not prevail against without the Grace of God. Giving into the temptation is the sin, not the struggle against it.
