I think your description is pretty accurate! I would add delusional in there somewhere.

We still have a number of "yellow dog" democrats in this area. These are good church-going people and they generally are more conservative than a lot of northeast republicans. They vote democrat because that is what their family has done for generations. I say they are delusional because even when confronted with all that the modern democrat party supports today, they refuse to believe the democrat party is pure evil!
