Disillusionment of Obamacare shifts unions' political alliances to GOP

Discord over President Obama's health care law is forging strange alliances, with top Republicans reaching out to union bosses who helped Democrats muscle the legislation through Congress three years ago but now say the reforms will "destroy the very health and well-being of our members."

Presidents of three unions, including the powerful Teamsters, sent a letter this month accusing Democratic leaders of breaking promises.

"Right now, unless you and the Obama administration enact an equitable fix, the [Affordable Care Act] will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40-hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class," the bosses said in their scathing July 12 letter to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat.

“Time is running out: Congress wrote this law; we voted for you. We have a problem; you need to fix it. The unintended consequences of the ACA are severe. Perverse incentives are already creating nightmare scenarios:”

It’s quite a letter, don’t miss reading it!

Mr. Union Leader, maybe you should do some investigation as to what amnesty will do to the rank-and-file before deciding where to put your loyalties.

If Republicans were smart, they would demand something from the Unions in return for their help.

The Democrats are the ones who are pushing amnesty.

What exactly could they do? No longer support right to work laws? Shift government funds their way? Grant them an exemption to Obamacare? Bail out failing companies and screw stockholders in favor of the unions?

Once upon a time, the Unions were pro-American. Maybe they are waking up.

Republicans could help out Unions and everyone else, by defunding Obamacare, in exchange for Union support in the next election, to make sure we’ll have a R Senate and R House, then they can repeal the whole thing — good for the unions and all the rest of us.

If the union is serious don’t let them use Republicans for a single issue. Make this a campaign issue, and make them endorse the Republicans for once.

Just what we need, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and union leaders in cahoots together. Not sure that would be good for the conservative movement.

The Republicans are right along with them with their nose in it all the way. Rubio, GWB, McCain, Ryan, et. al., with the blessing of the GOPe.

I think the record is clear.

Defund it how? Obamacare is the law of the land. Obama will find the money to fund it. He is ignoring the law whether it is backdoor amnesty, delaying the employer mandate, or using EPA to circumvent Congress.

Do you really think that the Reps could get a veto proof Congress during the midterms? Obama will veto any attempt to repeal it. And the biggest unions like the SEIU support Obamacare. The GOP will be lucky to hold on to the House in 2014. And if they pass an amnesty bill, the GOP will implode.
