Fish oil, Omega-3 causes huge increase in risk of prostate cancer

(AFP) – US scientists said Wednesday they have confirmed a surprising 2011 study that found a higher risk of prostate cancer among men who consume omega-3 fatty acids, raising new questions about the safety of supplements.

The research in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reported a 71 percent higher risk for dangerous high-grade prostate cancer among men who ate fatty fish or took fish-oil supplements, which are often touted for their anti-inflammatory properties.

A large European study also found the same omega-3 and prostate cancer link.

I used to have the aftertaste problem as well until I tried Omegavia. I never have it now and find it does what it says it does. Whatever world for each of us :)

Cinnamon & Turmeric = natural stuff, no bad side effects, and very beneficial. Anything natural food/spices is usually good for you. I do not imbibe in any man made pills, including fish oil pills. Better off taking cod liver oil in liquid form IMO.

you know you are taking enough turmeric if you start having a craving for pepper (instead of salt) on everything

Cinnamon just makes you feel good

I am sure you already know this, that cinnamon is the only substance known which helps reduce high blood sugar levels in diabetics. I sprinkle it on my eggs, tea, coffee, and use it almost anything I cook at home. I am not diabetic but was told I could be pre-diabetic by my doc. As for turmeric, it is the major ingredient in curry powder, so I eat plenty of it because I love curry powder. To get best flavor from curry powder, saute it in hot oil prior to mixing it with food.

And there is no mention of the fact that you can get equally beneficial omega 3 from a non-animal source.... Flaxseed Oil... I wonder what the drive-by mass hysteria media can conjure up on that impeccable source. Wouldn’t put it past them to come up with something.

We’d probably be better served being more concerned with the mercury in the fish oil itself.  I personally alternate between fish oil and flaxseed source omega 3 to make sure I always supplement omega 3 regardless of the source. Omega 3 is also a powerful antioxidant, essential to combatting the big three... heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.

I love beef curry

Take some olive oil and heat it in a pan, saute a big spoonful of curry paste

pour in some coconut milk and thats it

for the beef, thin slice almost any beef on a diagonal (even tough chewy beefs are great when slice wafer thin on an angle)

Saute some Onions and Green Pepper, toss in the steak at the last minute and saute quickly for a minute

Put this into your curry/coconut sauce and scoop over rice and eat

Toss on some dried fried french onions (asian markets have huge plastic jars of this- and I love saving the wide-lide clear plastic jars after)

mmmmMMMmmmmm

Dang. I’ve been taking fish oil for years, and I have an ultrasound next Monday to see if I have prostate cancer.

cinnamon is the only substance known which helps reduce high blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Rather than post a list of counter examples (including medications) I'll just give my favorite natural substance, Gymnema Sylvestre.

You got it bro...you are very knowledgeable...you know the magic ingredient in any good curry...coconut milk! Your recipe will work just as great with cut up chicken.

I’ve been taking fish oil for decades and one poorly-done study isn’t going to change my mind.
