President Barack Obama cannot be trusted to police immigration reform, and his past record proves it, Republican Rep. John Fleming charged on the House floor.
"Whatever we pass into law, we know he's going to cherry-pick" for enforcement, the Louisiana congressman said Monday, citing the president's refusal to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, his selective implementation of parts of Obamacare, and his hotly contested recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board.
"Hes not a president; hes a ruler," Fleming continued. "If he can just pass whatever laws that are going to be passed and then pick and choose the laws that hes going to enforce and hes going to obey, then we no longer have the checks and balances that go along with the presidency," Fleming said.
"This president is doing something I have never seen a president do before," continued the three-term representative who won his House seat in the same election that carried Obama to the White House. "In a tripartite government with its checks and balances, we have lost the balances."
Fleming called the Senate immigration bill "amnesty."
"One of the biggest fears we have about the Senate amnesty bill and theres no question about it, its amnesty by any measure, by any metric is that we cant trust the president. We cant trust him," Fleming said.

Hussein has utter contempt for the rule of law.
He is a small-time hack from the corrupt Chicago political machine.
.KILL any bill that has the word comprehensive in it. KILL any bill that has the word immigration in it.KILL any bill that has the word reform in it.
You cannot trust Obama
Nuff said.
Can’t trust him about anything.
Rep. Fleming has Barry’s number.
———hes a ruler-——
that needs to be sharpened considerably........ treacherous tyrant is better
Bump to Rep. John Fleming.
How long before Fleming is muzzled? 0bama will probably get his thugs to "quiet him down".
Yeah. But this ruler has only six inches.
That is why they spent so much time designing the executive branch.
Talk is cheap.
Hmmm... Rep. Flemming is obviously one of the few Reps that nobama hasn’t blackmailed using the NSA, IRS, CIA, etc. I’m sure those agencies can be counted on to redouble their efforts with Rep. Flemming.
Obama’s IRS goons will audit Flemming in 3... 2... 1...
Kudos to Rep Fleming for speaking the truth on the House floor and in front of his Republican colleagues.
Oh boy, now you’ve done it. Just wait until Jarrett hears about this!
good, add him to steve king, gowdy, bachmann and others.
now where is jim jordan and the rest of republican study committee? all i could do was leave a message on his voice mail. email works only inside OH. boy i hope his constituents are giving him and others in the RSC an earful.
kill this bill.
Thank you for referencing that article David Alan Coia. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed against Rep. Fleming and not you.
I don’t get a sence of awarness of the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers from any of Rep. Fleming’s statements.
Military issues asside, note that one of the very few constitutional responsibilities that the feds have with respect to intrastate activity of any kind is the postal services evidenced by the Constitution’s Clause 7 of Section 8 of Article I. All other government services that taxpayers are willing to pay for should be managed by state governments under the 10th Amendment.
Yeah, but plenty of checks. Taxpayer money, with way too many zeroes.
I’m sorry. I should have addressed LucianOfSamasota in my previous post instead of David Alan Coia.
Obama may be a ruler, but he sure as h*ll ain’t STRAIGHT.
