I've lived my entire life in New England (except when the Department of Defense was my employer),had my first taste of “grits” at Fort Knox when I was 19 (and hated it) and can't even begin to understand NASCAR.However, one of my very favorite songs is “Heart Of The Night” by Poco and I have far more respect for the average resident of Georgia than I do for 99% of the residents of my home state.

She said Jesse Jackson “forgave” her, and I heard Jimmy Carter threw her some support; but then, they’re pals.

The most racist people I’ve met are all New England leftists. Sure they put on a good show, but when they’re in private conversation they say the most despicable things.

Most Southerners I’ve met talk openly, and joke around with “less than sensitive” racial humor, but probably wouldn’t ever be malicious.

Just my personal experience.

I grew up in Virginia and I can tell you that yes there was a lot of racism there but it is even worse now and it is not white on black but black on white. I was shocked when I went back there recently and saw how things have devolved. I caused a big stir when I ordered a meal at KFC and said I wanted all white meat. The large woman behind the counter looked like she was going to come over the counter and beat me. You could have heard a pin drop in that place. I was informed in a surly tone that I was supposed to ask for all breast meat, not white meat.

All in all, a very good article.
It should drive the liberals and the "Establishment Republicans" nuts.

I have lived all over this country. Born way back when Kalifornia was a place to be. Moved to New England when I was very young and son of a GI Brat. All of my ‘formative years’ were spent in New England.

Now, I live in the “CENLA”, er, Central Louisiana area, all 85 feet above sea level, and a swamp not a quarter mile from the house. Imagine the shock of someone who had a very good training in the English Language, hearing how it’s been bastardized, in New Orleans!! Sure, I lived through New England hurricanes on Cape Cod, which was still above sea level, last time I checked. Then came Hurricane Katrina, and all the fishbowl jokes were jokes no more. I learned what ‘grits’ were, in Portland Oregon. It seems that a lot of the wagon train drivers were Southern, and brough their culture with them to Oregon, (the end of The Oregon Trail sits just above the falls in the Willamette River, at the south end of town. So, I had my toe-dipping in Southern Cuisine in the Pacific NorthWest.

Concluding, I have lived here in LA, the longest of any places I have been. I have a reason to anchor. Do I consider myyself “ a Southerner”. I remember so often, I have tried ‘to grow where you are planted’. I believe that when I finally rest, just might be ‘planted’ here.

As to the whole “Paula Deen/southerner” idea, “I am Spartacus!”

Somebody should start Southern Living cable TV channel. There’s 50 million people in the South To cater to. If the folks in New York don’t like it, too bad!

Just like this forum

Purge America’s politically correct warts on the back of demonizing white southerners and their heritage

Far and away the demographic most likely to be socially conservative..

That flaw amongst conservative elite is what dooms us and does little to distinguish us from foes

Meanwhile Mike Tyson publicly muses he’d like to see Sarah Palin’s vagina ripped apart by a well endowed black stud....

Womb shifting as that ape freak stated

And no recrimination

What a doomed sick nation

Oh for heaven’s sake, this is utterly ridiculous. I LOVE my Southern roots, and they’re not even mine...my grandparents moved there from Ireland/Newfoundland/Boston many decades ago and I grew up visiting southern Mississippi and Louisiana every Easter vacation. My Boston grandmother ended up managing the Columns Hotel on St. Charles, NOLA.. Really, some of my very best memories are of my days in the South...I could and maybe will write a book.

Grits? Love ‘em. Southern charm? Wish I had more, but I can pull it off when I try. Married a Southerner, utterly in love, wish he’d lived longer. Pralines? Mmmmm. Chawmin’ black waiters? The very best. Doris who took care of my kids for years? What would I have done without her?

On and on...I do understand Paula Deen and do indeed wish her the best. May even go buy one of her cookbooks just to support her. Not that she needs the money, but she deserves a public hug.

The stupid media whores have zero charm, zero heart, zero clue what living a charming life means.
