The GOP no longer wants conservatives. They do not care if we leave because we cannot win without them. Neither can they, but they think they can compete with dems if they pander to the low info crowd.

The locals here are just as anxious to learn English so meeting people here always turns into friendships that are mutually rewarding...

Several free online Spanish courses I practiced with before moving here to learn the most important verbs and now I learn something new every day...and I help the locals learn new English phrases everyday...as well.

Charades are useful too...when describing to a mechanic a squeaky belt, my hubby pointed to his belt and made squeaking noises...we all laughed, it worked...the mechanic charged us 2.00 USD to tighten the belt and topped off all the fluids...

I now look back to the days when I lived in Houston and chuckle on the illegals and their broken English but must admit...THEY WERE TRYING and now I appreciate their guts to do so, it can be intimidating when you are the “outsider” practicing a new tongue. Here the locals are kind and helpful, you start using it more and more and accept their corrections

It also helps to have a smartphone with an offline translator, I use Lonely Plants Offline translator, for 10.00 it has saved my ass...you can have a person speak into the phone and it will translate...I also practice my typed Spanish to see if it translates as I have hoped it to...I also have Rosetta Stone but it is slow and boring...

I did...expat effective 2/16/2013 and love every minute of it!

You are a slave to the political and economic chaos, GOP lies, government spying, homosexual agenda, anti Christan bullsh:t and dwindling freedoms...

I am free of the mess you prefer to wallow in and complain about...good luck it isn’t going to get any better...for you.

The progressives have taken over this country.

Indeed they have. It's been a slow, insidious process but they now have control of the educational establishment, the media, the executive branch of the government, one-half of the legislative branch, and many of the federal district and appellate courts (the Supreme Court hangs by a thread; one death or resignation by a conservative and you can kiss that one good-bye).

In short, they have won.

It is too late this year, but we might look at taking a ‘look see’ vacation down there next spring. It is unfortunate that we can’t just load up our Airstream trailer and drive down. LOL

My wife is teasing me about how difficult it would be for us to move all of my toys down there. ;>)

Thank you very much for your input..... or I should say, “muchas gracias”.

I am not hopeful of that. Mexico has been ruled by a cartel of rich families since Independence. Our rich families tend to be infused with puritanism, long after that has been drained of its religious content, as in the case of the Rockefeller family. Mexico has no David Rockefeller.

If the house were smart.... they would just do nothing about immigration. Pass a resolution asking the white house to enforce current laws. No vote on the senate bill. No conference to come up with different bill. Just drop it.

lets look at the wayback machine to 2007 when the senate tried another amnesty -which wasn't nearly as bad as this one . If Boehner doesn't kill it right off I suggest he might be compromised

During a private gathering at the Capitol Hill Club last week, Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) referred to the bill as “a piece of s---,” according to reports.

I understand some of that, but at this point, all I actually know is; “dos cervezas por favor”. ;>)

Learning Spanish should be fun. My wife already speaks german, so she will be able to scold me in 3 languages.

Very appealing. I have a good friend here who is Nicaraguan, she lived through the revolution as a child. She is deeply, deeply devout and impressively intelligent. I have told her I want to hear all about it (wanting a hint of what to possibly expect here). I’ll have to pester her about it some. How is the political climate? Stable enough?

I agree that old money knows how to stay rich and in control particularly in Mexico. Their secret has always been to keep the people backward so they can't even imagine challenging the status quo. Exposure to American culture and education (don't forget about the internet) can start to change that.
Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but the dam has to break eventually .

My view is that one has to keep in mind the differences between North and South, between The city and the rest of the country, between Catholics and the anti-clericals, and Indios and Spaniards. History keeps raising its head.
