Karl Rove: Here Are the 2 Tactical Fails That Cost Romney the Election

The GOP strategist says he tried to signal to the Romney campaign that it should change course, but they didn't follow his lead.

A lot has been said about why Mitt Romney lost the presidential election, from his failure to turn out more white working-class voters to his failure to win more of the Latino voters who did turn out. Republican strategist Karl Rove offered the latest take Thursday in remarks detailing how he tried, from his perch at an outside group forbidden by law from coordinating with the campaign, to signal to Romney's team that they should make changes in course and defend their candidate more fiercely.

"No election can be blamed on one single thing ... that's not the way politics works," Rove said during an Aspen Ideas Festival conversation with Atlantic Editor in Chief James Bennet. At core, however, "This was a tactical failure."

Romney was the designated loser and the schmuck didn’t even know it.

Rove has as much credibility left as toesucker Morris. Anyone who listens to him is a fool.

3rd party now. So what if it splits the vote. Can`t get any worse.

Amen to that. A strong conservative 3rd party would take off like wild fire.

Yep, I'm there too. Plus, the current Republican party is an embarrassment to be associated with nowadays, and yet I don't think the bad part outnumbers us. I'm ready to leave them behind and see who follows us, we need to find out once and for all just what our numbers are. And yes it can't be any worse than where we are now.

Yes, the current Republican Party is such a disgrace in so many ways.

A strong, conservative party that tells the truth and is not wishy-washy will be very attractive. The truth is very attractive because, among other things, it exposes the lies the liberals/progressives/fascists base everything on. They can never run on what they truly stand for because they would be rejected immediately. Deception is one of their games and it must be exposed by a good conservative 3rd party.

There is only one way for a Republican to win the presidency: promise every single special-interest group everything they want.

You can’t be “anti” ANYTHING! You must be “pro” EVERYTHING”!

Once you get in office, of course, all bets are off and you can do whatever you want.

It ain’t rocket science, Karl.

Rule Number One in Politics: When you are defending, you are losing.

Have a nice life, “Turd Blossom” Rove.

Rove was the guy who took what should have been a landslide against a moronic dilettante in 2004 and changed it to a near loss.

Rove had no strategy in 2004 when the Bush National Guard fiasco threatened to blow the race to war hero Kerry. It was Bush’s fellow pilots and the Swiftboaters and some bloggers that turned that mess around while Rove stood by clueless.

Romney was a good man and a good candidate. Unfortunately, he turned over his campaign to the RINO consultants and staff like Eric Fehrnstom, who canceled out all Romney’s gains with his comment “forget the primaries - come the general election we will do an Etch-a-Sketch on all our primary positions”.

A good candidate doesn’t need consultants.

“I would have voted for Frankenstein....”

Imagine the State of the Union, “Frankenstein say...RRRrrrrrrr”

Seriously, it was the likes of Mr. Rove who forced us to choose between our conservative principles and defeating Obama. That is unforgivable. They are trying to split us on purpose. That is also unforgivable.

Benghazi was a gift from God to Romney and our nation. It exposed everything wrong with Obama and the Clintons. When Romney backed off on it, I knew it was over.

Romney’s brilliant or supposed to be. He needed a Patton on his staff, instead it was Obama reading Romney’s ‘book’ via the NSA.

How many millions of GOP voters attempted to warn Romney of the negative onslaught and that he has to go after Obama the way he went after fellow GOP candidates like Newt and Santorum. But on NOOOOO, Romney's team new better.

Romney lost, because he did not fight to win. He let Obama off the hook on everything.
