A teenage friend of Trayvon Martin was forced to admit today in the George Zimmerman murder trial that she did not write a letter that was sent to Martin's mother describing what she allegedly heard on a phone call with Martin moments before he was shot.
In a painfully embarassing moment, Rachel Jeantel was asked to read the letter out loud in court.
"Are you able to read that at all?" defense attorney Don West asked.
Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, "Some but not all. I don't read cursive."
It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.
Jeantel, 19, was unable to read any of the letter save for her name...
During nearly two hours of cross examination Wednesday in which he tried to raise questions about her version of events and accused her of telling several lies under oath, including about her whereabouts during Martin's wake.
"Under oath, you created a lie and said you went to the hospital?" asked West.
"Yes," responded Jeantel. She said she lied because she didn't want to see the body.
Jeantel became increasingly agitated and scoffed when West told her that she would have to continue testifying.
She is seen as a critical witness to the prosecution because she is the only person able to say that Martin claimed that he noticed a strange man following him and that he was scared. Jeantel said Martin described the stranger as a "creepy ass cracker."
Jeantel said Martin, 17, was walking home during halftime of the NBA All-Star Game when he became unnerved because he was being followed.

I'll be 63 later in the year and I did too. However the difference between the ones I knew and this witness is that they knew how to write and speak proper English.
This is a cultural thing. This witness is a product of her environment where there is no desire to learn in school, no parents educated enough to train her how to speak properly or discipline her for bad behavior. Her parents (or parent) are likely just as ignorant as she is.
Notice her tweets, they're all about smoking and drinking and she's only 19 years old.........
There's a big difference between not being able to read due to a dyslexia and not being able to read because you had no desire to learn and no one in your family forcing you to.......
As a side note, in the course of my employment in HR for my company in Detroit, I came across many black employees coming in to retire who could not read or write. In almost every case they had grown up in the deep south and moved to Detroit in their late teens to find work without finishing high school.
There's a big difference between their reason for not being proficient in the three RRR's and today's black youths........
Yes, WHO? And by the way, the defense noted that it took this dumbitch three weeks to come forward and identify herself as talking to Martin on her Obamaphone. Plenty of time to concoct a story about an imaginary or rumored white cracker. It pretty much takes just one established lie to destroy the usefulness of a witness. My other question is how did these two come to even know each other and be phone buds since the Martin punk was from out of town?

It used to be that great white hunters would be called "Nimrod" as a term of praise, fitting with the Biblical King's reputation.

Trayvon Martin used the handle "gangsta nigga" or something like that on his Twitter and/or Facebook account. None of his posts on those social media sites, where he reveled in the joys of the "gangsta" lifestyle are admissible as evidence in Zimmerman's trial.

Can a lawyer ask a witness, whom is testifying about a specific time, the “state” of an alleged suspect with whom she had infrequent contact, knowledge about the same alleged suspect that she had gleaned from news media after the fact?
I don’t understand why the Judge would overrule the objection. She had no prior knowledge of the order of protection, diversion program.
The prosecutor is asking about Twitter and Facebook now?
