Of course they would, they want to enjoy cutting your head off, not have you do it.
Where did you read about the ban on figs? Does that come from the story about Jesus cursing a fig tree because it had no fruit on it? My pastor pointed out that the story happened on a Monday, showing that even the Lord can have a bad day!
