I thought that he said he didn’t care what happened to him? If his revelations about domestic spying were really based on principle, then why did he leave Hong Kong and not battle it out in the courts, instead choosing to flirt with this country’s enemies?

It’s likely he didn’t feel he’d get a fair shake. From what I’ve seen lately it’s certainly not inconceivable he wouldn’t.

<....”why did he leave Hong Kong and not battle it out in the courts, instead choosing to flirt with this country’s enemies?”.....>

Because Assange is in charge and working this entire orchestration....Snowden’s in over his head willingly or not..I tend to think he was a computer nerd Assad got wind of/ or plantsed... so Assange is enjoying being back on stage Himself again...

...money’s pouring into Wikileaks again...they were loosing mega amounts prior...Assange had to do something to gain the
World’s Attention for that is his goal and plan in order to remain “in business”.

From an interview..

Where does Assange see WikiLeaks in 10 years?.....

“It’s not what I want the world to be. .....It’s what I want the rest of the world to be,” ......he replies. (Follow Me)

How he defines national security:

....’’We don’t,’ he says crisply.... “We’re not interested in that. ........ We are a supranational organisation..... So we’re not interested in national security.’’

Assange states....”We’re an international organisation. We deal with international problems,’’

I despise the “my country right or wrong” mentality;when you believe your country is wrong you should not have to just accept it. By such “reasoning: any German who didn’t support the Nazi government whole-heartedly was a traitor.Yet which stance is better?

I am certain there are many dark secrets of American government that need to be exposed and the power of government cut back.

I suppose now they will come shoot my dog and stomp my cat to death .

But I should be GLAD just to be allowed to be “free” ?

What today’s Americans accept as free,pre-1861 Americans called tyranny! (I denote the action of governments in forcibly drafting men into the armies as a sure sign a society is not free.)

“why did he leave Hong Kong and not battle it out in the courts, instead choosing to flirt with this country’s enemies?”

He wouldn’t get a fair and public trial. He would get a secret trial in a secret court, without a jury. Why ? Because they don’t care about the constitution. The only way to survive is to flee into a independent country that has no extradition treaty with the US. That drastically reduces the number of places where he could go to.

Oh, I don't think he gave up his desire to stay alive.

And he doesn't matter in this anyway. It's what he told us that matters. Our government is collecting our personal data -- this comment on this post, for example. I'm glad he told us.

Given the information I have of him now, I wish him well.

Because he wouldn’t be able to win or prove anything in court. He’d be assassinated first.

Fair trial in the USSA? Really?

uhhh because he's intelligent enough to know when the deck is fixed against hum?

He'd probably also recognize a disingenuous web post challenging his courage...

To paraphrase your post: "Sarah Palin is a quitter"...
