Sorry to wake you, Lou.
LOL! That’s funny.
These lefties promote Democraps for years, shouting us down when we warn they are really totalitarian statists, and then express shock to find out they are acting like totalitarian statists.
But, but, but...I thought it was about the music - not the money.
Lou has one point. The punks who steal the songs now....aren’t paying into the pot of money that the old rock guys used to make a fair amount of money for retirement purposes. So those wasted millions as a 21-year old....aren’t around today, and no real income from the CD sales or on-line sales.
Lou Reed in a moment of lucidity.................no worries though, I’m sure it’ll pass.
I’ve spent my share of money on music over the years. Paid for the same songs four times - vinyl, 8-track, cassette, and CD.
That’s enough.
I bet over my life....I probably put $8,000 into CD, cassettes, 8-tracks, and records. Over the past five years....I haven’t spent a penny.
I would guess the number for me is probably somewhere in that range. And that was back when that amount was a fair chunk of money.
Sing it once; get paid once.
(are you holding your breath?)
By performing.
What a revolutionary idea.
The best (or least the most popular) of them will collect a few coins via iTunes and the like but the big money will come from the live audiences. Unfortunately many young singers and musicians still believe that you can write a few songs, cut a CD every couple of years and lead the good life.
I don't think so. Time to get off your rear ends and find some folks who will pay you to do your music live.
and CDs went out with powdered wigs. :’)
The copyright business as it stands today is basically a swindle.
If you look at youtube, it’s a giant freeforall, where thieves - big thieves to be sure - assert copyrights they don’t really have, and the artists be d*mned.
Same goes for absolutely every piece of data, with even the fedgov asserting copyright to al quaida propaganda films in order to regulate distribution.
“I thought it was about the music - not the money.”
Obviously not about the chicks.
Beam me up :)

The origin of copyright law in most European countries lies in efforts by the church and governments to regulate and control the output of printers.[6] Before the invention of the printing press, a writing, once created, could only be physically multiplied by the highly laborious and error-prone process of manual copying by scribes. An elaborate system of censorship and control over scribes existed.[7] Printing allowed for multiple exact copies of a work, leading to a more rapid and widespread circulation of ideas and information (see print culture).[6] Pope Alexander VI issued a bull in 1501 against the unlicensed printing of books and in 1559 the Index Expurgatorius, or List of Prohibited Books, was issued for the first time.[7]
Oh, I still have a couple yards of pristine vinyl, and a GOOD system for it, and a few hundred CD’s. In some ways it can’t be beat. Like ligtbulbs.
take a walk on the wild side, off a short peer, their Lou.
And the colored girls say
“Doo do doo do doo do do doo ...”
