I didn’t know who he was and had never watched an episode of the show.

Christie trolling for votes.

I won’t watch the depiction of mob activity for leisure enjoyment. The victims of mob activity, deserve more than that from me.

It’s not the slightest bit entertaining. No character is going to be entertaining enough for me to watch. If they were, it would in part humanize them. There is no humanity in these people.

I have nothing against Gandolfini. I am sorry he died so young.

It is amazing the level of deification that is gifted to people who learn lines, repeat them, and make faces on television or the silver screen.

“Gandolfini died Wednesday in Rome at age 51 fighting the NAZI army.”

A war casualty. At least it makes sense now.

To get an idea of the range that Gandolfini had as an actor, check out the movie: The Mexican.

The movie also has Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in it. Two people that we can learn about at a later time.

NJ can do what it wants but I am tired of King Putt lowering the US flag for every Tom, Dick, and Harry. Every natural disaster, every explosion, etc.

A dozen troops can die in combat and nadda....

I don't think that US Flags should not fly at half staff for him but......James Gandolfini did have a love of our troops.

James Gandolfini: Our troops are some of the brightest and bravest men and women I’ve ever met. Sadly, they don’t always get the appreciation and recognition they deserve. The USO allows me the privilege to meet them in person, show them my gratitude and thank them for their service.

Flags at 1/2 staff for a frigen boozer movie star.
Flags at 1/2 staff for kids massacred in a school shooting.

All this flags at 1/2 staff business is getting a bit much.

The Sopranos? I’m surprised a show about opera singers was that popular but if you say so.

I never heard of the AH either and like you never saw one second of the sopranos.

I understand they also lowered the flag for Clarence Clemons.

Note: They did not lower the flag for Sinatra.

James Gandolfini appeared on Broadway. Broadway has a nice tradition of Dimming the lights for one minute before a show for every play on a certain date, they make an announcement on the PA that the lights are off for a moment of silence and it is quite a nice gesture to a great thespian.

From your post, I’m not sure if you’re a fan of Gandolfini. I did not see “The Mexican.” But he was brilliant in “The Sopranos.” A very fine performance. He also appeared in a recent B’way play that I missed but in which he was supposed to be great. As an actor, he’ll be missed. Now whether we should be flying flags at half mast for actors, I don’t know.

I’m not sure why some Freepers can’t criticize Christie for doing this, without trashing James Gandolfini. He didn’t do anything but die.

"I would like to know what sacrifice this man made, to bring Honor to the state and/or country...perhaps I missed something."

Gandolfini went on a couple USO tours when his show was at its peak popularity. He returned with a lot of respect for our wounded veterans and used his celebrity to highlight some of the issues they were dealing with: Remembering James Gandolfini and his work with military veterans

Now, I'm not sure if all that merits half-staff recognition or not, but certainly, I have a lot less heartburn with Gandolfini being honored in such a manner than I did with Whitney Houston.

Has Mr. Creosote lowered the flag for fallen NJ soldiers?

I can’t imagine what will be done when “The Boss” dies.

Yep, I never saw the show either, and would not have recognized the name alone, in fact didn’t know which Soprano character he was when he died until the death articles described who he was, but everyone heard of the show and him, Rush loved the show and talked about it a lot.

In modern America, even adult men can’t help but see the names of the celebrities, pop culture is our only culture and the only news treated as truly important.

Flags at half-mast for an HBO actor as a nation mourns, yet men like Charlie Beckwith die without any attention or tale to be told.
