One thing that troubles me about the Duggars - the idea that if you don’t use contraception, you have a huge family. I know couples who use natural family planning who have reasonably sized families. I have to think that there is the financial planning part of this - the more kids we have the higher the ratings. Now my best friend in high school was at that time the oldest of 12. Her parents had five more kids. All seemed loved and last I heard all were doing well. (one had a congenital heart condition and died in her 20s). But it was their choice and not just because they didn’t use contraception.
They had like 16 or 17 before the show even started. I doubt ratings was a concern for more kids.
“Natural family planning.” Roman Catholic contraception.
But he did it all with one wife. Take that, Mormons!
Your use of a double negative makes is sound like contraception rather than procreation is the natural condition, essentially that one must or ought to make a deliberate choice not to use contraception.
They DON’T do it for ratings!! GEESH....a child is GOD’S GIFT...they are BLESSED!
The article does the same thing. One need not make a solemn vow to not use birth control. Not doing something requires very little commitment, unless one is an addict and then an addiction is almost always an action in an affirmative. How can one be addicted to not doing something?
Mrs. Duggar did make a solemn and explicit vow to Mr. Dugger to be his loving and faithful wife, and praise God for how she keeps it, merely letting nature take it's fruitful course. To imply otherwise is absurd, like saying she promised to not gag herself to prevent breathing or eating.
For many, contraception is the reproductive equivalent of bulimia.
