Saudi Arabia wants missiles for Syrian rebels: report

AFP - Saudi Arabia plans to supply the Syrian opposition with anti-aircraft missiles to counter President Bashar al-Assad's air force, German news weekly Der Spiegel reported Sunday.

The article, citing a classified report received by the German foreign intelligence service and the German government last week, said Riyadh was looking at sending European-made Mistral-class MANPADS, or man-portable air-defence systems.

Der Spiegel noted the shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles can target low-flying aircraft including helicopters and had given mujahideen fighters in Afghanistan a decisive edge against Soviet troops in the 1980s.

Saudi Arabia is a key supporter of the Syrian rebels and has long advocated providing them with better weaponry. . .

At one point last year there were reports that the rebels had man-portable SAMs.

How long before our planes are getting shot down by Assad’s forces with Russian advisors?

It’s a nifty scenario....Assad with Russian, Iranian, and Jihad advisers, and the Syrian rebels with American advisers. You can just sense some mess about to happen, which Mr Clean doesn’t clean up this kind of mess.

From the article, they’re looking at the Mistral system. It’s probably better than the Grail, but maybe not as good as the Stinger or Igla. Nevertheless, a very dangerous weapon, considering the elements among the ‘rebels.’

Absolutely confirmed. They already have them. Watch the video. Turn down the volume because they are not speaking English.

Proof that the Syrian Rebels already have Highly Sophisticated and Operational Manpads

Can you say Benghazi anyone ? The House of Saud is now going to provide cover for the US government illegally running highly sophisticated weapon systems through Benghazi to Al Qeada linked terrorists.

Our planes are just as likely to get shot down by the rebel forces. They have Al Qeada amongst them and they want the WMD components intact.

Turkey manufactures Stingers under license with the U.S. The Saudis have enough money to buy just about anything.

Probably not Hezbollah (Iranian-backed, Shiite). On the other hand, Al-Qaeda is Sunni, as are the Saudis, and most Muslims in Kenya and Indonesia. So Obama’s decision to help Al-Qaeda in Syria and elsewhere is consistent with his bowing to the Saudi king.

We laugh now. But this will end up being a full regional war like the World hasn’t seen for 40 to 45 years in the Near east. I predict sometime mid 2014 it’ll be on. The US - we arm both sides usually - gotta look behind the curtain and far enough this has been the case. Only this time there is a little thing like Abraham’s blessing or cursing that we’ll be judged according to.
