Israeli and U.S. military officials are coordinating how to target and destroy Syrian president Bashar Assad’s arsenal of unconventional weapons under assorted scenarios, Israeli military and intelligence officials told TIME Magazine.
One scenario would be the sudden removal of Assad from the scene, the magazine said. “That would prompt the allies to launch operations on the estimated 18 depots and other sites where WMDs are stored,” Israei military and intelligence officials said.
“Search and destroy operations would also be launched if the weapons appeared to be about to fall into the hands of the rebels, which include Islamist extremists aligned with al-Qaeda.”
The Israeli officials emphasized, according to the magazine, that it has not been decided whether Israeli and U.S. forces would act together, and how the work would be divided between them if they did cooperate. “But the U.S. plans called for deploying forces on the ground as well as waves of airstrikes, to assure that the chemical and biological components are neutralized, according to the Israeli officials.”

If Israel were on its own, it could have bombed every Syrian WMD installation into oblivion months ago. But since Obama insists on getting into the act, who knows if the Syrian war will ever end.
Aren’t there Russian air defense systems and even military personnel on the ground in Syria? What could possibly go wrong?
Iran will go after both, and that possibility will never have been planned for by either. Lots of damage, many lives lost, eventually Iran will be destroyed. O will claim all credit and want his head in place of Lincoln’s on Memorial. Beheading will be video’d.
and if they run across Russian troops there?
They’ll take along Sean Connery just in case.
The Russians should be the ones controlling the chemical weapons sites. Let the Russians be peacekeepers on the chemical weapons site. Let Assad and the terrorists fight over ther rest of the country.

I’m sure Assad is smart enough to move all ABC weapons as close to Soviet ships and personnel as possible. (No. “Soviet” was not a typo by an old Cold Warrior.)

Actually, bombing chemical or biological WMDs is not a good idea. It required capturing the sites, and managing the stockpile very carefully.
I do think Obama is a buffoon, and that’s where you were going with this. He’ll find a way to screw it all up, no doubt about it.
They will have to worry about Russian troops, Syrian troops, Iranian troops, Hezbollha troops and even the Syrian Rebels who will be trying to capture the WMD components intact.
You have to think a bit to get it.
If anything goes wrong he will have someone to blame.
Russians “technicians” have been killed all over the Middle East in various wars and disputes.
We learned that lesson in Gulf War 1 when we bombed and demolished every Iraqi WMD facility we could find. Turns out it created environmental catastrophes in quite a few areas. So expect Obama to do the same, and then sign into law a bill the next week regulating CO2 for the environments sake.
