Anger was mounting in Congress on Tuesday night as politicians, briefed for the first time after revelations about the government's surveillance dragnet, vowed to rein in a system that one said amounted to "spying on Americans".
Intelligence chiefs and FBI officials had hoped that the closed-door briefing with a full meeting of the House of Representatives would help reassure members about the widespread collection of US phone records revealed by the Guardian.
But senior figures from both parties emerged from the meeting alarmed at the extent of a surveillance program that many claimed never to have heard of until whistleblower Edward Snowden leaked a series of top-secret documents.

*snicker*
They’re so cute when they try to pretend to be angry at something they support. They’re so much like their daddy Obama.
Interesting that on last night’s Fox News panel A.B. Stoddard (from the left) thought it unlikely they’d monkey with the Patriot Act, while Stephen Hayes (from the right) thought it very likely that they would.
Anybody know if the briefing will be televised on c-span?
I think that even low information voters don’t like having people listen in on their calls. Might have something to do with buying and selling drugs or other stuff.
Selective Outrage?
More like feigned outrage. Nothing outrages anyone in DC, except things like Christianity or free enterprise.
Is Snowden the whistleblower mentioned by beck that will only appear in front on congress on live TV?
On Beck thread mentioned to check his resume timeline!
Going to press in February and working three months for data mining doesn’t compute. He was/is CIA They’ve got our back
It is obvious from Graham's statements and responses that he is under serious blackmail threats from Obama. His defenses were pathetic and he failed to directly answer her questions.
If he were a man, I would have been embarassed for him the way she was bitch-slapping him all over the set!
A lot of these low-info voters (especially the under-30 crowd) eat, live and breathe online 24/7. Online privacy to them is sacrosanct (as is their conviction that everything online should be free). This one could actually do some damage to the Obamaworship Coalition.
Especially if anyone has the guts to buy ads and start running back those B.S. Obama campaign speeches on the subject.
I’m a retired NSA officer. During all my 33 years of service with the Agency, I NEVER targeted any US person. We were focused on the main adversary until the fall of the USSR. I spent most of my career out on the tip of the spear and we lived under the rule that any attempt to target a US person would lead to dismissal or prosecution. I am proudly wearing my cap with the Agency’s shield.
just want to add the press to your statement.
Thank You! Your number is shrinking ... May you continue to warn us.
I pray you dance!
Isn’t this type of overreach the reason Bill Ayers walks free today?
Now we’d really like to hear from Gen. Petraeus on the blackmail that he was subjected to. That would make interesting testimony.

I can only conclude that Obama ordered the NSA to break the law.
Exactly!
Or.. act as if it’s the first time they’ve heard about it!
