These companies are having major problems. They are under delivering too much. Apple did with the ipad3 and mini. The S4 was greeted with a meh.

And yes, Samsung’s top of the line TV’s have been slammed as just not being very good quality. I’ve always wanted one since they have the best specs, but the results always get tons of returns or complaints.

I just bought the Samsung Centura. If everyone is racing to the bottom I will race with them and beat them. If all is made in China then I will buy the cheapest chinese made crap I can find because I will end up with it anyway. (Yes, the samsung centura is made in china.)

I used to buy only brooks brothers shirts as they lasted 5 times longer than anything else I could find (and then only during their twice annual sale). Since they began sourcing from china I quit buying. Now I will buy from target/walmart and get the same poor quality for a lot less.)

Similarly I stopped buying levi’s since they started manufacturing overseas.

Per August 10, 2011's edition of The Economist, "Apple is one of Samsung's largest customers, and Samsung is one of Apple's biggest suppliers...Apple is happy to let other firms handle component production and assembly, because that leaves it free to concentrate on its strengths: designing elegant, easy-to-use combinations of hardware, software and services" (http://www.economist.com/blogs /dailychart/2011/08/apple-and-samsungs-symbiotic-relationship) http://media.economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/original-size/201108200_WOD010_0.png

Thanks rickmichaels.
Orders for the S4 smartphone, which went on sale last month, are slowing on weak demand in Europe that may impact profit margins...

They’re in bloody competition.

That may be the picture on the surface but here's the reality.

Apple neither makes nor assembles the iPhone you use for your daily business needs. An iPhone has parts that come from several manufacturers, one of which is Samsung, a maker of integrated circuits as well as computer parts, televisions and other consumer electronics -- and a competitor in the smartphone market. Samsung has the chip factories necessary to make the custom circuits used in the iPhone; in addition, it can produce the large quantities of the parts Apple requires.

All of it widely known. Read the Wall Street Journal to learn that they are in fact in stiff competition with each other.

I am eyeing the Galaxy note 10" with the stylus so I can get my notes to a computer.

The Note app looks good

But they are sure a lot of money.

All of it widely known

The battle is between the Apple IOS and Android.

Samsung is like Del Monte canning company. They have the Del Monte name brand products on the shelf at Kroger supermarkets and they also create a "private label" version of those same food items. Canned corn, beans, pea, etc.

My point: Del Monte sells their brand of corn through Kroger while they also sell their corn under Kroger's private label as well.

In either case Del Monte is canning and selling corn for themselves and the Kroger private label. Samsung is in the SAME situation as Del Monte.

Like I said the war is on the surface. It's between the Apple IOS and the Android system. Samsung wins by working BOTH SIDES of the street in that they supply parts for Apple and for their own Android devices.

> You may want to look at LG. I just purchased a 3D 55” wifi ready model and it’s simply amazing. My version had 4 HIDMI inputs and 3 USB inputs.

I actually did buy an LG. I really like it better than the Samsungs that I had. You can really tell how much better the picture is when you play a blue ray DVD

I know what you mean. I’ll tell you what though, you’re missing out on some special experiences now that the HDTVs are here. It’s an amazing thing to watch some of the things that are available these days, on a high def television.

I like watching my own video in 3D. Some of the things I shoot with my iPhone5 or my iPad mini look fantastic on there.

I also have an HX100v Sony Camera that shoots 60frames per second high def video. Seriously, in 3D it looks like you’re there.

When I say simply amazing, there’s no other term for it.

The interlaced display on tube TVs bothered my eyes, after buying my first LCD TV, I replaced every TV in the house and sent the tubes to charity.

I upgraded my son’s S2 to Jelly Bean, the S4 is a superior phone but the old S2 stille delivers very good performance and features with the new OS.
