Bloomberg’s next targets: Sweet tea, energy drinks, fruit juices
The Washington Times ^ | June 4, 2013 | Jessica Chasmar

Michael Bloomberg and his battle against bulging waistlines are targeting new villains: sweet tea, energy drinks and fruit juices.

New York City’s health department launched a series of TV and bus ads on Monday that warn people about the high sugar content in drinks that are seemingly healthy.

The ads cost about $1.4 million and are part of a “pouring on the pounds” campaign that dates back to 2009, The Daily Mail reports.

One of the television ads shows a young boy happily slurping on a juice box. The scene takes a dramatic turn when it flashes to what appears to be a patient being operated on with the words “amputation,” “heart attack,” “vision loss” and “kidney failure” appearing on the screen. The patient then flatlines…

“Fruit-flavored drinks are not a healthy choice,” a voiceover says after the cheerful music resumes, instead suggesting that parents should switch out their unhealthy drinks with water, seltzer, skim milk and fresh fruit.

“Nanny State PING!”

I was watching a “Top Gear” (UK) rerun on Netflix this evening with a segment on two fire-breathing Aussie cars. It got me to thinking about our not being able to buy so many interesting cars here in the USA.

We let the Feds get away with restricting our freedom to buy automobiles because “it was for the Environment” (EPA) or “it was for the children” (NHTSA). The Unions and Detroit did not want the foreign competition and Washington liked the power. Now Bloomberg and all the other Nannies have had 50 years to become addicted to PowerKool-Aide.

Like all addictions, the required dosage just keeps going up and up. The Supply of new areas of our lives which the bureaucrats could control has now shrunk to the point that Bloomie has to try to control Iced Tea!

Really! How many iced tea drinkers are there in NYC? This particular iced tea drinker has no desire to visit hiz honor’s socialist workers camp.

Unfortunately he is right. Please don’t flame me because he is barking up the wrong tree. It’s SUGAR period that is toxic but would be go after BIG SUGAR? I don’t think so. But more folks need to be warned if they don’t already know just how bad the excessive consumption of sugar is. It’s terrible but so many don’t understand why they are so fat.

Don’t get me wrong if somebody wants to eat this stuff by all means its a free country - for now

It’s not about health with despot Bloomberg. It’s about power. Otherwise he wouldn’t be fanatically promoting bicycle riding to kids. “Don’t drink soda...but riding your bike around speeding trucks and taxis is perfectly OK.” All the time I read about some kid getting crushed by a truck or a car. This guy is completely and utterly full of BS when he says his edicts are about public health.

He isn’t cunning like they were. But he sure has his acting down to an art form. I think he is a megalomaniac, he needs a shrink.

I am really and truly starting to seriously rethink my plans to attend my 35th HS reunion in Brooklyn in September.

>>Yeah, my first dinner at the in-laws I was asked what I would like to drink, I asked for iced tea...brother, you would have thought I farted really loud or something with the way they looked at me!

LOL. Same experience for me, but it was at a Wendy’s in Groton, Connecticut.

I ask once again. Why has no one done an involuntary psych committal on this guy? Is there not one single doctor in NYC that even has a vestigial backbone?

Daughter is against fruit juices due to sugar content. “Eat fruit Mom”, she says.

I don't think most democrats think about anything related to governance. They have drunk the Kool-Ade and are going along with the party line...but I don't think they realize what they are suggesting.

If someone sat down the Democrats and explained the total effect of their programs...many would wake-up and walk away.

In my mind, what is going on with the Liberals at the present time is nothing short of demonic.

Back in 1975, we were at a restaurant in Stockholm. I asked the waiter, “By any chance, do you have sweet iced tea?”

Pensively, he said, “We haf tea....”
“We haf ice....”
With a brilliant smile he said , “YA! We haf ICED TEA!”

Soon, he reappeared with a sterling silver pot of hot water, a china cup & saucer with tea bag, a sugar bowl and a large glass of ice.

“That works for me!”

(that show of initiative earned the water a healthy tip!)
