I received an insightful email from reader Karen Sacandy:

I’m among your many grateful readers, but at this time, the Democrats are like Thomas Crown in the flick, “The Thomas Crown Affair,” who created a distraction over here, while over there, he was stealing a multimillion dollar painting.
But in this case, it’s a total transformation of the American people, by immigration law changes to aid and abet the non-enforcement we’ve had for decades. All these abuses of power converging at this time are almost COMPLETELY distracting everyone who could bring pressure to bear to prevent the enactment of new law which without question – without question – will alter our demographics and governing philosophy to the point of no return.
I hope you’ll consider going in a new direction.
My response was:
I don’t consider the current fights irrelevant either in themselves or as to immigration. In fact, I think they are quite connected, and it’s possible to fight all at once.
To which she replied:
You may be right. But the bill in the Senate is doing, as they say, famously!
Karen makes a very good point.
Key Republicans have buckled under. The Senate will pass the bill right under our noses.
It is a bad bill. **snip** The Gang of 8 bill, if it passes, will go down in history as a mistake as disastrous as Obamacare. It must be stopped.
Democrats are playing the long game. Republicans in Congress are acting like scared cats playing a short game for 2014 and 2016.

My guess is that the Tea Party is now going to get so jumpin’ ugly after the IRS revelations that very few GOP Congresscritters are going to muster up the courage to vote for this thing, no matter what their leadership tells them.
If amnesty goes through, it’s the final nail in the coffin for America. All further politics/elections immediately become moot. The only thing left will be my desire to live long enough to see each and every traitor who sold the country down the river receive the ignoble, unsavory demise they so richly deserve.
Hardly a day goes by without me thinking of my good friend’s young toddler nephew and sister-in-law, who were ground to a bloody smudge on the pavement due to a drunk illegal. These bastards in DC let that happen, and here they collaborate to further reward these lawbreakers. Damn them all to the hottest corner of hell. And that includes those scumbags Rubio and Ryan, with that outrageous, lying commercial of theirs.
Gotta just leave, or I’ll wind up punching my computer screen.
Last time they tried this, there wasn't this kind of distraction. Most of the same people care about this are also preoccupied with these scandals.

Scandals or not, they’d do what they want anyways. Who are we to tell them what to do? That’s their feeling....
Agree it’s a result of people not voting they got what they didn’t vote for.

This is another Obama scam - why else would the administration decide to expose the IRS scandal when they did?
This is an issue that they have effectively concealed for two or more years and I have never read anyone state that there was any threat of an imminent exposé to force their hand.
Yet two weeks ago, out of nowhere, comes Lois Lerner to voluntarily disclose the IRS’s illegal targeting of conservative groups and to apologize for the wrongdoing.
She threw the bait out and republicans had to bite.
But how sincere was she?
Well, today when the Issa Committee wanted more information from her she plead the 5th amendment and clammed up on them.
Previously this administration has never admitted to any wrongdoing and has never apologized for anything.
Why start now? and why start with the IRS issue which was not even on the radar until two weeks ago?
There is no denying that on almost every issue the Obama administration has (with the willing aid of the media) outsmarted or flat out scammed republicans. Right or wrong, republicans have always been portrayed as being behind the curve and constantly take a beating in the press.
So why would the Obama administration hand them this plum at this time?
That is hardly fair.
They do use the issue to raise money and wage a fake protest.
