Nice to see more assertion of individual protections by the Missouri Legislature.

It’s a start. Now for provable deletion of the information already collected. Then punishment. Then some kind of strong disincentive for ever doing anything like this again. Then investigation into how it could have happened in the first place.

Good for the people of Missouri whose last names begin with letters positioned later in the alphabet.

And will they oversee the destruction, if it’s even possible, of said records?

As I recall, the MO State Police and MO Secretary of State provided two lists of CCW permit holders to U.S. government agency third parties (SSA and DHS, I believe). MO law states the blanket release of such information is forbidden except on a case by case basis as part of a criminal investigation.

The chairman of the investigating committee asked if the MO departments would do it again, now that the word had gotten out. The bureaucrats said “yes, it's no big deal”. The chairman said they should effectively consider the budgets for the agencies to be zero for fiscal year 2014.

This new piece of legislation recloses the loop on the rogue MO bureaucrats. Zeroing out the budgets for 2014 would really get these scumbags’ attention. Nothing makes a bureaucrat see the light like losing his agency budget. As we used to say: “When you've got ‘em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.”
