George W. Bush: Great President, even finer man

Eric Golub

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 29, 2013 — The George W. Bush Presidential Library is now living history. The Southern Methodist University campus will house some of the most important documents spanning one of the most consequential periods in American history.

Mr. Bush, affably known by nicknames “43,” “Dubya,” and “The Dub,” entered office after a disputed election. His first few months saw him ram through supply-side tax cuts that turned around a slowing economy he “inherited” from his predecessor. Despite a NASDAQ collapse of over 90 percent, Bush did not spend one minute complaining about his circumstances or blaming anybody else. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. His promise upon taking office was to “restore honor and dignity to the White House.” After eight years of endless scandals during the prior administration, he did exactly that.

On September 11, 2001, radical Islamists from al Qaeda hijacked American airplanes and flew them into the two World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. A fourth plane destined for the White House was diverted when brave passengers took the plane back. United 93 would crash in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. New York was ground zero of a war America never asked or. Yet after almost four decades of presidents unwilling or unable to take the fight overseas, President George W. Bush launched a Global War on Terror.

He left office with toxic poll numbers, but has seen a revival as Americans come to appreciate and respect the hard choices he made during the toughest of times.

The left always hated him, felt he stole the 2000 election, and never gave him the decency and respect that an American leader deserves. Yet an honest look...

"Thank you for NOT explaining."

I've explained it in great detail multiple times in multiple threads, including ones I've posted myself. Your failure to use your search engine is not my problem.

In 2010 Bush doubled down on his critics in the tea party as i recall. He spoke too much on tv too. Finally when he was ending his book extravaganza he said that would be the last he would say anything else about his time as president and that he was done being in the limelight. Bush seems happy out of the spotlight now.

President George W. Bush launched a Global War on Terror.

Yep. And Bush lost that war. It was his to win, or to lose. Not Obama, but Bush.

Who will control Afghanistan 5 years from now? Who will control Iraq 5 years from now? Who will control North Korea 5 years from now?

Hint: it won't be friendly regimes.

RE :”Hey, was it Bush's fault his Homeland Security Boss Chertoff, was found to have people who entered the country illegally, wandering around the inside of his private residence?...During war time..”

No, that was Bwarny Fwank’s fault. And Jimmy’ Carters.

Bush's amnesty plan would have fixed that by getting them to sign up and then they would know where they were.

EIGHT MORE YEARS, ELECT JEB!

George Bush is the numero uno reason we are safe today.

He is also the reason the economy rallied after 9/11 and surged until Pelosi came in.

He is a man of class and I will forever be grateful we had him as President. His legacy is already coming back and if Iraqi WMD are found in Syria that's it...he will be considered great by vast numbers of people.

Oh, and I will always recall how refreshing it was to have an example of husbandhood and fatherhood and pro-life sentiment enter the Oval Office after the stink Clinton left.

Do you think Bush and our government did not know Obama was a fraud?

Assuming that they did, don't you think that it would have been logical to assume he could never get elected ? Back then, how many people would have believed it ? Even though it has been proven true, approx. half the US population still doesn't believe it.

President Bush wasn't running against Obama. He had no 'campaign' fund or staff. Most of the so called 'government' wanted to see him dead. If he had come out and claimed Obama was a fraud, the media would have arranged to have him hanged, on LIVE TV. Besides, the 'presidents' have a secret 'compact' that the current president cannot divulge any incriminating information on past presidents (unless the current President is a democrat or socialist or communist).

Yep, they do as they are told.....and warned. The globalist New World Order’s PTB do not fool around. There is no give and take. There is no argument. You play ball their way or you are out....all the way out. It is the main reason Bush fell all over himself telling us all about how great islam was and how he did nothing about the illegal immigration problem. (He even called Americans trying to protect our country’s borders “Vigilantes’. Nice huh?) Those were just two of the demands by the PTB . I voted for W. twice. The first time I loved the guy and sent a lot of money to/for his campaign. The second time, zero money but he got my vote, but I wasn’t to thrilled to give it. I agree with some of the other posters on this thread, Bush and Cheney knew about Barry and did NOTHING.

Anyone who peddles that line of BS doesn’t understand politics, and never will.

Politics eh?

2006.....So emboldened by Bush, 500,000 illegals march on Dallas Texas, among other U.S. cities, making demands and threats while shoving foreign flags in our faces....During war time yet..

Anyone who peddles that line of BS doesn’t understand politics, and never will.

You should work for Obama gringo!

The press getting John McCain selected and Obama elected in the most outright way got OBAMA the White House.

Still Bush gets a 50% from me.
Great on the war against terror. Horrible on prescription meds and amnesty.

GWB was not a fiscal conservative by any stretch of the imagination and he was part of our problem financially.

Nice guy, spiritual and deep, but in some areas he was ignorant.

"President Bush wasn't running against Obama."

Doesn't mean squat. The JOB of the President requires protecting this nation from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. He and his intelligence knew who Obama was and did nothing. This is far worse than the nothing Obama did in Benghazi. Bush did nothing to defend America against the direct threat of enemy infestation into all levels of our Federal government that Obama would bring. In addition to serving as the golf tee for Obama's white house golf ball, Bush also provided the club (DHS) to hit that ball with. Bush deserves being a four-letter word.

How can one declare 'he lost' something that hasn't even finished yet ?

He won all the 'battles' on the battlefield.

However, you are correct in that he did lose 'a war'. That war was with the MSM and the public.

Who will control Afghanistan 5 years from now? Who will control Iraq 5 years from now? Who will control North Korea 5 years from now? Hint: it won't be friendly regimes

Heck, they aren't 'friendly regimes' now.

Funny thing about you guys, when I ask how many miles of fence Bush built, you pretend not to know. When I ask about local government officials trying to block the construction? Nothing. Bush issuing an EO to keep the EPA from preventing construction? Crickets.

I agree he is a fine man but I’m not prepared to say great. Reagan was great and since he was the first president of my adult life he has a special place for me. I’m not going to throw words like great around freely. He did a great job of being president after 9/11. He had to be a president at a time when there was no blueprint for how a president should govern. He did not take the fight to his political opponents strongly enough at a time when that has to be done. He was resistent to vetoing congress because he did not want to harm his relationship with his republican house and senate. To lead a nations through wars like Iraq and Afghanistan he really needed to more often and in un-focus group tested lines explain the the nation why we were there and what was being accomplished otherwise the Left and the media was free to define the template people would be talking about.

RE :”Finally when he was ending his book extravaganza he said that would be the last he would say anything else about his time as president and that he was done being in the limelight. Bush seems happy out of the spotlight now.”

I dont recall that.

I vividly remember Laura Bush's 2010 book tour where she said she supports abortion (er right to choose) and gay marriage or something close.
I dont remember GWB doing similar.
