Chinese carjack victim of Boston bombers only escaped when they stopped for Red Bull and (trunc)

A man taken hostage by the alleged Boston bombers after he was car jacked was able to escape after they stopped to buy cans of Red Bull at a gas station, MailOnline can reveal.

The carjacking victim, whose name has not been revealed, has told authorities that being Chinese almost certainly saved his life, saying that the brothers told him they would not kill him because he was 'not American.'

The victim was able to jump out of the car and flee while Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, looked to buy cans of the energy drink and chocolate bars.

From interviews with the staff at both gas stations and court records, MailOnline has been able to piece together the frantic events of the early hours of last Friday.

The terrifying sequence of events began when Tamerlan carjacked a Mercedes SUV car at gun point barely 40 minutes after MIT campus police officer Sean Collier was killed as he sat in his patrol car.

Tamerlan jumped into the passenger seat of the Mercedes and told the driver: 'Did you hear about the Boston explosion... I did that.'

Would they have killed him if he were a black American?

The photos at the link show a dark sedan in the middle of the street with a window blown out. But the article, and all the other reports I've seen, says the kid ran over his brother in a SUV during his escape.

So, where's the SUV?

...So, where's the SUV?...

I'm going to answer my own question since I found an eyewitness account of the shootout. Apparently they were in two cars.

Very proud indeed, he most likely thought the sticker would be like a force field to keep him safe.

I thought they had let him go. As it turns out, he escaped. I'm not so sure that they wouldn't have killed him. They might have temporarily needed a driver and a hostage. With him driving, they had two guns available to blaze away at any opposition, and a human shield.

Good diversity for Texas but how hard would it be to start a collection like that in the Northeast? And most Bostonians believe that a coexist sticker will keep them safer.

“...they would not kill him because he was ‘not American...”

Hmmm...so it’s OK for terrorist murderers to profile their victims but it’s NOT ok for us to profile the terrorists?

Did I get that right?

I believe they would have killed the Chinese carjack victim eventually ...he just happened to escape. At times carjackers and other kidnapper/abductor/hostage types will tell their victim a lie to placate them until the moment they are ready to terminate them. All abductors want the victim to comply as fully as possible, and telling a lie is one of the easiest ways to do so.

Come think of it I believe in one of the 9/11 planes the terrorists who hijacked it had informed the passengers that they would be ok once certain demands were met. In a pre-9/11 environment it was a good strategy, since in all but one plane the passengers were compliant, and in the single plane where the passengers rose up and fought the terrorists that was only after some of the passengers had received information (when they called home on the plane's credit-card phone system) that other planes had also been hijacked and had crashed into buildings. Without that information the passengers in the fourth plane would have also remained docile, and the plane would have been crashed into either the White House or the Capitol Building.

I believe the terrorists would have killed the Chinese victim had he not escaped. In the same vein, they would also have killed an African American victim, had the driver been one, and they would have also told him a lie that he was safe because he was a minority. Same with virtually any other combination they would have nabbed, including a white male ...who would probably have been told that, as long as he cooperated, they would let him go once they were safely out of the area.

All potential victims would have ended up dead.

No kidding. Both Thais and Austrians are major consumers of pork-related food items:

Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by a pre-existing energy drink named Krating Daeng (Thai: กระทิงแดง, Thai pronunciation: [kràtʰiŋ dɛːŋ]), which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of westerners,[4] and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in Austria. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the reddish-brown bovine called a "gaur", which is an animal slightly larger than the bison. Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can; in Thailand and in some parts of Asia it is sold in a wider gold can with the name of Krating Daeng or Red Bull Classic.[5] The two are different products, produced separately.

Well at least we know the President would have been safe if he had been carjacked by the brothers Chechen.
