Marco Rubio’s press secretary likens non-citizen permanent residency to slavery
Twitchy ^ | Monday April 22, 2013

Alex Conant @AlexConant: "We haven't had a cohort of people living permanently in US without full rights of citizenship since slavery".

Mind you, he isn’t talking only about illegal immigrants. He’s talking about any non-citizen who lives in this country permanently, including millions of Green Card holders.

And by implication:

Conn Carroll @conncarroll: For those of you keeping score at home, Rubio spokesman @AlexConant just compared all Schumer-Rubio opponents to slave owners

If this is Team Rubio’s strategy for winning over conservatives, good luck with that.

Marco Rubio looks worse every day. His stupid spokesman shows where Rubio is at and it’s not pretty.

Black Africans were captured by Arabs and sold as slaves to the highest bidder.

These hapless people had no choice. They were captured by force and kept as slaves by force. Those, who had children often saw those children separated from them by force and sold to other masters or kept by the original masters. Again, there were no choices until they were freed by evil republicans after the civil war.

The illegal aliens, who are in America sucking up our resources were not forced here.

Nor are they being kept here by force.

These remarks are insults to every American, whose ancestors were slaves not illegal alien parasites.

Rubio and other “conservatives” peddling amnesty seem to have their own form of political correctness. I fail to see the difference between Jesse Jackson comparing opponents of affirmative action to slaveholders and Rubio’s mouthpieces doing the same for amnesty opponents.

There have been so many “conservatives” who became major disappointments, but few as quickly as Rubio, it seems. I remember in 1978 how Roger Jepsen was strongly conservative, but IA booted him out in 1984 for the permanent Tom Harkin. Jepsen didn’t help himself by “moderating” pretty soon after he arrived in D.C. The cases like this are endless. Even David Vitter in LA has been absent from the latest fights. And I understand John Boozman has been a disappointment in AR too even as that state is poised to move heavily Republican.

Sarah Palin’s leaving that governorship so soon will doom her; the commercials against her would be endless and negative. She would never be able to retaliate. She was only in office 2.5 years.

Agreed.

I don’t find him charismatic or personally impressive either. He speaks like Mr. Rogers—as if we were a nation of kindergartners.

Unfortunately, Rand has his own, libertarian-inspired problems with illegal immigration himself.

They are both pathetic on illegal immigration.

The sorry truth is that even many of our 2010 tea party heroes are Establishment players or sell outs.

This is coming from a man who once said the cost of lettuce would sky rocket if Americans were picking them at the going rate of pay. Now who's really closer to supporting slavery?

What a crock! Their argument is easy to debunk.

A totally bogus claim. No one BOUGHT them and BROUGHT them here. They sneaked over ILLEGALLY!

I say send ‘em back. I have ZERO sympathy. I live in West Texas...it’s a huge problem here. I feel like I live in a foreign country when I go to the grocery store or to our mall.

No offense to any LEGITIMATE Central/South Americans on this forum. I just don’t like illegal activity of any kind!

they never go weak in the knees because they actually support the same agenda.

Sadly few, even in FreeperLand, realize this.

He needs switch to the Socialist Fascist, er “Democratic” Party what with his call for amnesty for the est. 25 million illegals (plus all their relatives).

Wonder how the Dem’s will reward this Judas Goat.

Clearly, it is WAY past time for term limits.
Said term limits banning re-elections.
All too clear that with the exception of a small handful, politicians’ put re-election ahead of principle...at least those supposed to be on our side.
The Left has the money to corrupt about anyone.

The way 95 percent of Blacks vote for the “Slave Owners” Party goes to show that they were never really comfortable not being slaves. Freedom requires more thought and effort that being taken care of by “Master” (now the “Democratic” Party).

Same comment applies to many Whites and most Mexicans, Orientals and Jews judging the way they vote for “Big Mama”.

Yes, when Sarah Palin gave up being Governor, letting all the hate attacks make her give up, she killed her political chances. The Left don’t quit. The Right should not either.

Not smart enough and not principled enough to be president.

I don't know about smart, but he has plenty of principles.

They just aren't our principles.

The comment was about LEGAL green card holders waiting forever to get citizenship.

As evidenced by comments above, it's becoming too typical of freepers to leap when they should've looked first.

Sadly, your comments below are probably true and accurate:

“The way 95 percent of Blacks vote for the “Slave Owners” Party goes to show that they were never really comfortable not being slaves. Freedom requires more thought and effort that being taken care of by “Master” (now the “Democratic” Party).
