My heart is hurting bad right now....I’ve stopped there many times on the way back from driving from Austin/San Antonio to pick up Kolaches at the Czech Stop. If these reports are true, this is devastating to such a small community.
Over 15,000 now.
Me, too. Wife and I both teary eyed. This is horrible. Tomorrow’s pictures are going to be devastating. And, they’re expect a bad storm around 4 a.m.
People are trapped in houses and apartments but can’t be rescued because they’re calling it a “hot zone”.
Fox News reporting 60-70 dead
Four firefighters possibly
Homes flattened, middle school on fire
Evacuations in 30 mile radius
We have 30+ mph winds 80 miles north. Fire fighting in that wind is tough.
I’m thinking that if it was a fertilizer bomb that took out the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, how many times stronger was this blast?
Sarah, I’m watching locally and I can say that the EMS response is massive.
I see hundreds of fire trucks, ambulances, buses, police cars on the scene. In fact, West City Council has asked that surrounding areas quit sending responders as they have more than enough to handle the situation.
If they evacuate a 30 mile radius that includes north waco.
I can hardly believe what I’m hearing and seeing....this is so horrible. 5 firefighters and 1 police officer dead. They were fighting the fire before it exploded....
I know here in the Dallas area we are expected bad storms after midnight, so I imagine they will get it too.
I’m not much of a nutter, but this is too much of a coincidence.
Watching the WFAA live feed. Someone actually had a camera on the fire when it exploded. Oh, wow. To say it was massive doesn’t even begin to cover it.
@KHOU 70 people confirmed dead, incl 5 firefighters & 1 police officer. Hundreds of others injured in explosion
I dont know why these horrible things are always happening..I hope that anyone on this forum who lives in Waco or has any family there is safe
Ch 13 in Houston is reporting the town is being evacuated because of leaking amonia.
I have stopped at the Czech Stop Bakery many times. Best gingerbread men ever.
This explosion was felt 60 miles away.
Triage area had to be evacuated.
Expecting a storm tonight on top of all of the devastation.
I was just thinking about that catastrophe. Absolutely devastating.
Initial triage being moved to community center due to proximity of other possible explosive hazards.
I hope these folks are considering the extreme hazards of the resulting chemical cloud.
This thing is a Haz-Mat nightmare.
the pictures look amazing
I dont know how far you are from the scene but please stay safe..that stuff is very toxic they are telling everyone to get out so stay safe
You know there’s natural gas leaks all over the place.
Just heard scanner asking for more fire trucks.
130+ injured, not dead. The only real report about deaths I’ve heard of is for three firemen and one police officer who responded to the original fire.
Local link please...
Saw that too. Beyond imagination.
To quote one lady from yesterday “A day like no other”.
Yes, let's hope that the coming rain will help put the fire out. I hope it's a gully washer.
Same here. I felt the same way about the small town of Jarrell, also off I-35 when an F5 tornado devastated the community in late May 1997.
Scanner on, telling all media to go to the auction barn.....lol
There are quite a few near by houses that were leveled.
I’m in Waco and just heard a man give that number..He was VERY upset so I have no idea of accuracy..Estimates of injuries 100 to 300..It’s too early to really know..I am in shock..West is a small town N of Waco..This will be so hard for this community..God bless the rescuers. Healing prayers for the injured and comfort to the families who have lost loved ones.
He also said 2 EMS personnel were killed..
This thing is a Haz-Mat nightmare."
"I hope these folks are considering the extreme hazards of the resulting chemical cloud.
This thing is a Haz-Mat nightmare."
Try KWTX-TV from nearby Waco.
The entire town told to evacuate. This is going to be worse than OKC.
And I’m starting to think this could be terrorism. Secondary explosion after first responders got there.
I remember Jarrell as well.
I’m sure Waco tv is on top of it. Keep us posted. And stay safe. Prayers for all of you.
“Im thinking that if it was a fertilizer bomb that took out the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, how many times stronger was this blast?”
Oh, Hell. Compare a Ryder truck full of fertilizer with a warehouse full of fertilizer fire going off.
The explosion caught on video makes the Nevada incident a few years ago look like a pedestrian event. People were knocked into walls 10 miles away.
Hearing 60-70 fatalities as of now (michelle malkin)
I don’t think this is terrorism..
A horrific accident.
Now 200+ injured, of which 40+ are critical.
OMG....poor woman on WFAA....hubby is firefighter....she’s on the city council. Her roof caved in....explosion killed her pets? This is such a nightmare.
Listen live to this incident @ http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/2663
It started with a fire (actually one earlier in the day as well) and there are multiple buildings and tanks at the plant.
I'm thinking specific incompetence today (in addition to the long-term zoning incompetence).
How long before MSNBC blames the NRA?
Being reported that Four blocks of houses leveled.
I35 is blocked. Will probably be blocked for quite a while.
Salt of the earth...
The saving grace for Jarrell is that the tornado hit during the day, when most of the houses were unoccupied. Sadly this happened at the worst possible time.
AFAIK, there is no “zoning” in Texas.
There was an apartment building between the nursing homes and the plant - video on one of the Dallas news stations showed that the entire second floor of the building was destroyed.
Fortunately the nursing home looks like it was single story so if it “collapsed” people inside have more of a chance.
not for the feint of heart, that!
