Gun Control Could Die Today

This is it!

It would have been better if we had won the motion to proceed last week and didn't have to spend this week fighting one Harry Reid bribe after another - all of which are intended to lure Senators into passing gun control.

But we believe that our grassroots’ pressure has kept Senators from giving in to the bribes. And, as early as today, there could be a series of pivotal votes on gun amendments.

The most important - and the vote which will determine whether we defeat all gun control in the 113rd Congress - is the vote on the Toomey-Manchin-Schumer gun registry bill.

This bill would require you to go to a dealer and fill out a 4473 if you put up a sign or run a newspaper ad touting your gun that’s for sale. And, once you fill in that 4473, Toomey-Manchin-Schumer would open the door to putting you on a national gun registry.

Don't believe the loophole-filled weasel words in the Toomey-Manchin-Schumer amendment. If it passes, there will be a national gun registry.

The vote on Toomey-Manchin-Schumer will be, by far, the single most important vote today. And it will require 60 votes for adoption. If we get 41 votes against - and we are very, very optimistic that we will - gun control will probably die for the next two years. Obama’s agenda will have been defeated.

There will also be votes on two other bad amendments, but we should be able to get 41 votes and defeat these without any difficulty. They are the votes on the Feinstein semi-automatic ban and the Blumenthal magazine ban. As we say, these should die without any more effort.

A number of good amendments will be offered:

•The Vitter/Cornyn amendment would allow concealed carry holders and persons in constitutional carry states to carry nationwide. •The Burr amendment would guarantee that veterans cannot lose their gun rights without a court order. •And the Barrasso amendment would defund state governments that release the names of gun owners.

But we need to keep our eyes on the ball: The single most important vote is the vote to defeat the Toomey-Schumer amendment. If we win on that, we will probably kill gun control for the rest of this 113th Congress. We only need 41 votes. And we are optimistic that, with your help, we will get them.

CALL YOUR SENATORS at 202-224-3121. Demand that they vote against the Toomey-Manchin-Schumer sell-out. Let them know that Gun Owners of America will be scoring this vote in its end-of-year rating.

please call all the senators who might possibly vote for this horrible unconstitutional bill

(and if we can defeat it now, maybe we can get a follow-up bill to abolish all the existing unconstitutional laws and regulations that only serve to deny good citizens’ their rights to defend themselves and their families and communities)

Glad to hear that this affront to our God-given rights may be cratered as soon as today.

I can understand the Newtown parents who want this bill passed. They are just lashing out, and they want somebody to be punished. From the brainwashing they’ve received from their education and the media, it’s the EVYL “gun culture” that caused the deaths of their beloved children.

They are, at best, pawns.

But that is no reason to encroach upon the rights of law abiding citizens.

In the end, they too would be punished by the diminution of any birthright.

Just as every murder diminishes all of us, every encroachment on our rights, especially in response to murder, diminishes us yet again.

Dear FReepers,
Due to the economy, combined with posters who refuse to donate, the FReepathon Team is anticipating a long haul. We have started working on Memorial Day graphics. Got ideas? Send them along. We also are looking for ideas on Flag Day
Sincerely,

It never dies. I'd like to see considerably more respect for the constitution, and Congress could start by repealing some of the more onerous parts of the federal firearm mess.

I read that NRA is revising their scoring. Now the procedural votes count.

We haven ‘t lost it either. It’s a whole lot harder getting something back than keeping hold of it. Yet I agree, we should never loosen our grip.

WE ARE WINNING.

KEEP UP THE PRESSURE.

And when these treasonous bastards come up for re-election, REMEMBER, and throw their worthless arses out.

Hope you’re right! I’m sure my Senators from Texas are on the right side of this issue...well, Cruz for sure, Cornyn I somewhat trust.

"We haven’t won this, not by a long, long way."

Gallup says all of 4% think gun control is the top problem facing the US today -- so I think we've won the "hearts and minds" part of the war. But as wars go, this battle was more Breed's Hill than Yorktown.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if we defeat the assault weapons ban, the high capacity magazine ban and the gun registry ban and these above amendments pass and are put into a "gun control" bill? I would be laughing my arse off. We could come out of this with an extension of our 2nd amendment freedoms!!

I hear that, I’ve got Alexander and Corker here in Tennessee. However I still called and give them my option and requested that they vote NO.

I know mine are not: Both Lame-R Alexander and Bobby Corker voted for cloture on the Reid filibuster. I have sent nasty-notes to both, and reminded them that Freedom Loving Tennesseans are ready and willing to unseat their traitorous a$$es
