Pennsylvanians have a good chance of seeing the northern lights this evening, AccuWeather says, thanks to a solar flare Thursday. Best time for viewing will be around 8 p.m. Saturday, give or take seven hours.

Viewing conditions will be best in the mid-Atlantic, specifically for parts of Pennsylvania and the Delmarva, says Accuweather.

Here along the Yukon, it’s not getting dark until 10:30 pm and light at 5 am; still 15 below every morn and 3 foot of snow everywhere. I never saw any night lights in Pa and was born there, way too much light pollution to even see the stars. It really gets dark here in interior Ak, well in the winter that is.

It would help if we didn’t have a thick deck of low clouds...(in Susquehanna County...)

If you have never seen them, make the effort. My Mother was from northern Maine, we were visiting there when Uncle Ralph woke all us up about midnight.

Curtains of multi-colored light shimmering, bright enough one could not see the stars behind, and the curtains moved as if a gentle wind blew across them. That was 50-odd years ago, but it is still one of my most vivid memories.

Last time I saw them in Delaware was in the late 1950’s - was beautiful and we had I think three nights of displays.

Judging by the satellite readout, the aurora has just 'heated up'. I'm going outside to take a look. http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/pmap/pmapN.html
