(Newser) – McDonald's is attributing its recent struggles to the less-than-sunny dispositions of the teenagers taking your order. "Service is broken," declared a slide in a webcast for franchise owners last month. Customer complaints have been rising, executives told the franchisees, with "rude or unprofessional employees" topping the list, the Wall Street Journal reports. About 1 in 5 complaints related to friendliness, while others were about speed of service.
One study last year gave McDonald's one of the worst drive-thru service times in the business, and the second-worst friendliness rating, ahead of only Burger King. "The new leadership has decided to focus on customer satisfaction as a real driver for us," one franchisee said. But it's unclear how much McDonald's can do as a corporation, given that 90% of its US restaurants are owned by individual franchisees. "I think it's an ongoing problem, and it always will be," another franchisee says
What could go wrong?

How about the fact that drive-thru’s at McDonalds play a pre-recorded stupid message before taking each order?
Most of them are not teenagers working there now. Some for eh shoes I’ve been in over the years the employees acted like you were the enemy and not a customer. With as many people as need work it makes no sense.
All I want from the big M is a “Yes Sir”, count my change back to me and get the darn order right the first time, everything else is just smoke and mirrors as far as I’m concerned.
Ha! There is a McDonalds close to us and in the 4 times in MY LIFE that I have ever been there, they have NEVER got my order right... NOT ONCE!
I’ve seen enough stories about what the employees do to your food to never go there again. Five Guys have a set-up where you can watch the burger being built.
the french fries are no longer the best. the rest is unexciting and drab. scapegoating the staff isnt gona make anything better
I think the problem is they’re hiring highly qualified people who are p*ssed that this is the only job they can get.
And btw when was the last time that anybody saw the term “McJobs” in the MSM?
Yes it was prior to Jan 09.
Really? I’ve not heard that?
Its bad enough they ask if you want (insert daily special), but if they played some recorded commerical - I’d be insulted.
It is amazing bad especially when you compare to the customer service to Chick-fil-A...
*drools*
Well, I know where I'm getting dinner tonight!
Same with Subway. Which now has overtaken Mickey D’s as the largest fast food chain.
They should see what Cathey is doing over at Chik-Fil_A. They had the top spot for “friendliness” in the survey.
McDonalds food is pretty darn good if you asked for it “cooked fresh” and then wait for it. Sort of defeats the purpose but then you get a burger that hasn’t sat in that ridiculous steamer that doesn’t keep food hot.
And the fries do suck compared to what they were. Thanks to the Health-Nazis for that too.
We only go to McD for mcmuffins when we are taking long roadtrips. Otherwise, if we want a burger, we find the nearest In n Out, Five Guys, or worst case, Wendys. All other fast food burgers aren’t worth what they charge. I’m not paying $4+ at McD for shaped meat paste on sugar bread.
I have that same problem with Burger King.
I have not bought, consumed, or otherwise anything from a McDonald’s since 1975. I won’t be going anytime soon either.
Bad service with food that will kill you.
Great business model.
I her you and it is for that reason I do not go to the large chain fast food places. In addition, they are usually dirty.
