It seems those that tried desperately to warn of such an insidious plot had hit the bullseye with their warnings after all. News came from multiple NY State based firearms enthusiast websites late Friday that confiscations of Pistol Owner ID Cards, as well as firearms and accessories has commenced in NY under the provisions of the horribly flawed, draconian and blatantly unconstitutional NY SAFE Act.

Those folks having their weapons and FID cards confiscated have been discovered to have been prescribed multiple different types of psychotropic drugs...

Did your child ever take Ritalin? Millions of kids have. Will they be prevented from getting pistol permits?

What’s a psychotropic drug? Since when does the information from your doctor get sent to the state police? Oh, I forgot. That’s one of the goals of government-controlled medicine - government ALREADY will have the information.

Totalitarian control!!

I take topiramate for RLS. It works great for me. Unfortunately Psychiatrists have used topiramate to treat bipolar disorder. I assume the gun grabbers will use that to keep me from buying a gun.

I predict that these millions of kids that have been given drugs like candy will be prevented from their 2nd ammendment rights. Maybe that was part of the plan; communists love declaring people mentally ill.

"Oh you want to go down that road? You want to deny 2nd amendment rights to a person on Ritalin? How about the millions of law abiding people on anxiety or depression drugs like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. Virtually none of these people are dangerous in any way."

Absolutely correct, plus you rapidly get into the issue of anyone else in your household who has ever been on any of these meds. Also, your and your family medical records under Obamacare are going to end us being used by law enforcement to confiscate your guns, etc. This more than a slippery slope. It is a wholesale license for mass abrogation of the 2nd Amendment.

What happened to due process? What became of the rule of law?

Regardless of any Rx that anyone is taking this is a first to take away someone’s 2nd Amendment rights based on the premise of mental health issues without the due process of being adjudicated mentally incompetent in a court of law with the benefit of counsel. This is an outrage.

Nope. Wickard v. Filburn and the 17th Amendment allowed it.

And it won’t be long before those who oppose the government in any way will be deemed as mentally ill and a threat and will have their guns confiscated. This will happen.

They prescribe that drug for any behavior they deem a problem, real or imagined.

It’s time to play the Israeli game known as persona non grata.

Deny the Nazi Cuomo landing rights in all patriot blue states. If he drives or walks into a blue state, give him no food, no water, no clothing and no fuel.

This bill will use the grant to higher ed/establish a ‘center’ and a ‘commission’ strategy to create regulations that will seize or otherwise prevent firearm ownership.

Just like in the Soviet Union. Of course, New York is already a socialist republic. I cannot image why anyone lives there now.

I think that the Ammoland article makes a critical point that needs to be followed up on:

Either the gun banners admit that psychotropic drugs are a common feature of mass shootings and therefore should be looked at more closely, rather than passing useless gun control laws*,

Or the gun banners admit that this is just an excuse to confiscate guns. They can’t have it both ways.

*I’m not suggesting that I back the automatic confiscation of guns from a person that is prescribed these drugs; I’m suggesting that 1) the drugs themselves need to be carefully looked at, and 2) the gun banners must be consistent and we must require them to be so. They can’t be allowed to claim that the drugs had nothing to do with the shootings and then simultaneously claim that all who take them must surrender their guns.

just an observation ~ most of the mad dog killer situations involve someone finalizing his trip into schizophrenia. That can happen quite fast ~ and not everyone with the DNA associated with the condition actually ever manifests the problem.

The consequence is it's virtually impossible to find the mad dog killers ahead of time.

On the other hand the use of psychotropic drugs to deal with neurological ~ not mental ~ disorders is common, but not everybody getting psychotropic drugs is a total head case like the schizophrenics may turn out to be.

I don't see how we can even test for the problem beforehand, nor even anticipate its occurrence based on use of powerful drugs! At least not with current technology.

In the meantime all the rest of us need firearms so we can establish a sort of balance between what certain kinds of mentally ill people can do, and our need for security.

Not likely the police can provide that balance ~

The problem here is that the psychotropic drugs do not cause schizophrenia or psychotic breaks. They are 'associated' with that condition at all simply because doctors will try anything possible to alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia!

The head cases will go on to be head cases no matter what you give them because NOTHING TREATS SCHIZOPHRENIA. So, we trank them.

Not all the head cases are violent.
