US 'plans tit-for-tat response to North Korea'
The Daily Telegraph ^ | 4/8/13 | Damien McElroy

The United States and South Korea have reportedly drawn up joint plans for a retaliatory set of tit-for-tat responses to any strikes by North Korean on its neighbour.

The scale of the response has been set down in a new war plan to ensure that there is no unintended escalation into broader war.

The new "counter-provocation" plan is calling for an immediate but proportional "response in kind" to North Korea if it decides to launch a ground attack or a missile, the New York Times reported last night, citing unnamed US officials.

Under the plan, the source of any North Korean attack will be hit with similar weapons, the report said.

If the North Koreans were to shell a South Korean island that had military installations, the plan calls for the South to retaliate quickly with a barrage of artillery of similar intensity, the paper noted.

White House officials are attempting to downplay the military build-up on the penninsula in an effort to calm the situation. Dan Pfeiffer, the senior advisor to President Barack Obama, said on Sunday that North Korea had display similar behaviour "many times" in the past.

I do not think America is ready for another Vietnam. Thanks to people like Teddy Kennedy, we lost that one.

It’s impossible to start a humanitarian crisis in North Korea right now. The North Korean people are already eating grass. How much worse could it get for them?

Gee...sounds like a winning strategy. "Tit for tat."

What, Obama pulls up his shirt in exchange for a tattoo??!

What a freak, why doesn't he just get some beads at Mardi Gras?

Looking at pictures of the well-fed 'Un' with his starving, lean-faced lackeys makes you wonder if this could be solved with a few good recipes for stir-fried long pig or won-t'Un's.

Pure folly. Translation of “tit-for-tat”: restricting the US military so that it never exercises any capabilities beyond the NORK’s. This is how liberals fight—and lose—wars.

Ridiculous non-strategy. WTF do they have that would be a comparable target to anything we have? Tit-for-tat my azz.

Oh, I see, so we wait for them to obliterate us and then we, who don't exist anymore, obliterate them.

The theory is that the nukes have so altered the time-space continuum that we, in the afterlife, can still retaliate in kind. What a great idea.

Oh, thank you Great-t Brit-tain, for teaching our American global sub-leaders in business, politics and academia how to cao-tao and make dirty deals with our foreign enemies against us.

Not our problem. All of North Korea can starve. It is not our job to feed them, or, in a state of war, allow them to be fed.

Besides, no number of North Koreans, military or civilian, is worth the life of a single American.

You can’t win by fighting an enemy’s army (unless that enemy is us - we’re waaaaaaaay too squeamish to absorb real casualties). You have to destroy his logistics. Every army runs on beans, bullets, and bodies. We can’t do anything about Nork bodies, and the manufacture a fair amount of their own bullets. Be we can cut the beans, and we should do so without pity or hesitation. The war will be over that much faster with less loss of life on all sides.

Sorry, that's the stupidest plan I ever heard of. If you're going to get in a fight, you fight to win it in the quickest amount of time possible.

Hitler and Stalin were mentally stable compared to the Nork "leader". Kim needs to be taken out and killed by any means necessary, not engaged in a global chess game.

How wise. If only the free world had had his guidance at the start of WW II. Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor in sneak attack. Bomb Midway in sneak attack, too. Then offer Hawaii in keeping with ‘land for piece’ policy. Ah, so./sarc

Bill Clinton is no longer the President. These things can no longer be resolved with a stripper and a few drinks. Now somebody must die, and then you bring on the stripper.

tit for tat responses are what North Korea loves to see

proportional responses are stupid, they encourage more bad behavior

Sounds more like a Bill Clinton strategy. You give me the “tit” and I’ll give you the “tat”.

Sorry to be so crude but this regime is such a disgrace and so cowardly that you often can’t think of anything logical in their thinking to explain it.

“Where the heck did the concept of “proportional response” come from?”

Probably from weaker, but more clever enemies - both external and internal.

Experience has shown that Russia’s brutal, grossly disproportionate, and completely indiscriminate responses to threats has worked very well for deterring future attacks. I could make a case that this policy SAVES lives.

‘Proportionality’ comes from international law concerning warfare, but its popular use means ‘Jews can’t fight back’. More recently, its popular use also means ‘Americans can’t fight back’.
