Carson Willing to Step Down as Commencement Speaker After Protests

29 Mar 2013 Greg Richter.

A pediatric neurosurgeon who has become the darling of conservatives since speaking against nationalized healthcare is now under fire for comments he made about same-sex marriage.

Dr. Benjamin Carson told “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on Friday that he would be willing to step down as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine after faculty and students signed petitions asking that he not speak.

“I would say this is their day, and the last thing I would want to do is rain on their parade,” Carson told Mitchell.

Carson said in interview that he has not notified the university he won’t be speaking. “I am waiting for appropriate channels,” he said. “I don’t think television is the appropriate channel.”

The petitions began after Carson told Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are — they don’t get to change the definition.”

One of the petitions, quoted by The Hill newspaper, reads: “We retain the highest respect for Dr. Carson’s achievements and value his right to publicly voice political views. Nevertheless, we feel that these expressed values are incongruous with the values of Johns Hopkins and deeply offensive to a large proportion of our student body.”

MSNBC’s web report on the story says Carson equating same-sex marriage with pedophilia and bestiality has caused him to lose some of his star power within the GOP. Carson has said he would consider a run for president if the public was still interested in him a year-and-a-half from now.

He stood up for his beliefs, and hasn’t backed away from them. No guts? How do you figure that?

Could you run his apology past me again? I guess I missed it the first time.

What’s different?

You can say all you want that we won’t give up the guns.

But that changes when you have 20 brownshirts with weapons pointed at you, your wife, and your kids.

If we aren’t gonna give up the guns, then we should use them before they even try.

I’m sorry, but the good Dr. Carson is already showing sings that he has the spine of a jelly fish. No thanks!

This is why we lose...instead of just staying the course, folks on our side “step down” willingly.

I say give the speech and let them ruin “their day” with protests and sit-ins and yelling and screaming and all of the other tactics they use.

The Sarah Palin garbage still ticks me off to this day. Because I knew they were going to keep using the same tactics from that point forward.

In reality those tactics started with Bush. This was the danger of sitting back letting the left define you day in and day out.

"Carson apologized for his choice of words in a Baltimore Sun story on Friday, but not for his position."

It’s reprehensible. It’s another victory for stupidity. I’m tired of these leftist whiners always getting their way. They should shut the H___ up.

So logic would dictate that since I love my horses, chickens, and dogs; I should be able to get SS-N’s for them have them become my legal partners and they would then qualify for health befits under the unaffordable health care act. This logic would be based on challenge of state laws defining a marriage as being between 2 humans. This would be easy to win as it could not be claimed that it would violate and moral and/or ethic codes since those have been thrown out the window.

If John Hopkins refuses to allow Carson to speak, it will constitute a huge publicity boost for the good Doctor. I hope they cancel him, and then try to justify it publicly.

HUGE FALLOUT. HUGE EXPOSURE OF LEFTIST BIGOTRY.

That will assure that Doctor Carson will run for elective
federal office.

Thanks. That was not in this article. Of course, I’m not satisfied with an anonymous quote from an unnamed source. I pasted your quote into a search, and found the article at the Baltimore Sun.

>>>”Now perhaps the examples were not the best choice of words, and I
>>>certainly apologize if I offended anyone,” he added. “But the point that I
>>>was making was that no group of individuals, whoever they are,
>>>whatever their belief systems, gets to change traditional definitions. The
>>>reason I believe the way I do, I will readily confess, is because I am a
>>>Christian who believes in The Bible.”

I think that makes it perfectly clear. Thanks again for setting me on the right path. : )

Libs going all out, now. They are calling him a racist, ridiculing his skills and accomplishments as a neurosurgeon, and saying there is no place in America for “his kind.”

No guts. One of the best points he can make to a young crowd is to stand for something.

You don't know U of M med school...

They don't call it Moscow on the Huron for nothing..

Don't get me wrong, I have friends and loved ones healed their by gifted surgeons, but the pomposity of the Uber Political Correctness knows no bounds.

Like the time I was in line at the cafeteria their and two interns behind me pontificating about hybrid cars, John Kerry and other leftist drivel...

And oh by the way, you want to donate money their to a dept for the advancement of Medicine?

The School takes 25% right off the top as a fee, IMHO that makes the Soprano's look like lightweights...

I agree with Dr. Carson. Let the closed minded graduates learn the hard lessons of life. Most will learn to regret their closed minded stances that they think we have.

They will learn that it is nothing more than an invitation to break down even more taboos making the world more crude and less civilized.

They will learn what real poverty looks like.

They will learn what slavery feels like.

In short they will learn a lot of things I don't even want to think about, let alone learn about first-hand.

Good luck graduates.

Good thing I don’t run the school. The little twerps would sit in silence for the duration of what would have been his speech. See how they
really like what happens when speech is suppressed...little Nazis!
