President Barack Obama pushed back Thursday against suggestions that the prospects for passing federal gun-control measures are fading, admonishing Congress not to “get squishy” on the issue.
The president, who appeared frustrated by lawmakers’ lack of action, made a forceful plea to remember the horror of the December massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., and to take steps aimed at preventing future gun violence.
“Less than 100 days ago that happened, and the entire country was shocked,” Mr. Obama said. “And the entire country pledged we would do something about it and that this time would be different. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten. I haven’t forgotten those kids.”
Mr. Obama spoke Thursday at the White House, standing with Vice President Joe Biden and mothers of shooting victims, as he renewed his request for Congress to approve several measures, including an expansion of criminal background checks, tougher penalties for straw purchasers and a ban on certain semiautomatic rifles known as assault weapons. The proposals face a steep climb in Congress, with many Republicans and some Democrats unwilling to support the legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) already has said that a ban on so-called assault weapons and on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds would be voted on as an amendment – not as part of the main gun-control bill.

Maybe it is good that he is busy pushing gun control. It probably would not pass and hopefully it sidetracks amnesty for illegal aliens. After four years I am looking for silver linings in every cloud.
If I were in the House of Representatives I would be working on imeachment charges for Obama’s failure to uphold and defend the constitution as he swore to.do.
