What happened to her was horrible. She is dealing with it. Why is that courageous?
What would be an example of an uncourageous way of dealing with something like this?
I guess we can expect the USS Yoko Ono and the USS Jim Carrey next for their “courage” in the liberals’ fight against the Bill of Rights.
Why name a vessel after a woman seeking to take my freedom and being openly used by others to take my freedom?
Forgive me for being blunt, but I don’t have a whole Hell of a lot of love and respect for Mrs. Giffords.
You get a carrier named after you if are skilled enough to get shot in the head... ? forget all the selfless warriors we have lost, let's name it after a liberal politician who never really accomplished anything commendable.
I'm curious (I really don't know), does this woman have the capacity to understand the level in which she is being abused and paraded around just to gain political sympathy points? Even my very young son understands shame
Frank Gifford deserves it more.
She’s not the first congressperson to be shot by a crazed, leftist lunatic.
I would rather she not have been shot, but I think naming a military ship after her is not appropriate. Also rather hypocritical given a military ship has massive guns and other weapons of destruction.
I think it's a slap at the first amendment supporters. Dumb name in my view.
“will be the Navys 10th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), a new kind of ship designed to bring the Navy fighting power into shallow coastal areas.”
These ships are a joke, as is naming one after Giffords when there are so many more Sailors who are far more deserving. But as to the ships, they carry the firepower of a Bradley fighting vehicle. A 30mm gun, and Griffin missiles with a 3.5 mile range and a 13 pound warhead. Thats it.
A 1939 era Fletcher Class destroyer had a 12.5 foot draft and would already hopelessly slaughter a Littoral “combat” ship. An Updated Fletcher would make it an embarrasment.
As a point of fact, a Litoral “combat” ship really shouldnt go near the shore becase a T-72 tank could easily take one out.
As a final comment, the LCS was exempted from numerous USN battle damage survivability norms that have stood the test of time.
What I want to know is will this ship be allowed to have automatic weapons?
Please tell me this is a spoof from the “onion.”
Ships should be named after famous naval battles or brave sailors, not some mutt that had the bad luck to be shoot at a strip mall and has become the poster retard for gun control.
A bad example for recruiting, “I chipped rust on the Gabby scow!”
Just you wait. It will be USS Harvey Milk next. Then of course, the USS(R) Van Jones.
I’m sorry this woman got shot, by a nutjob who should have been in an asylum, but we don’t name vessels after random gunshot victims. Why is her name any more important than the people who actually died on that day? Because she’s a politician? I think the woman whose baby was just shot in the face is a brave soul, to be able to go on after something like that, but she won’t have a ship named after her.
Is there a hole in the head?
My grandfather (my greatest hero), spent 20 years in the United States Navy... he must be rolling over in his grave to see what Obama the his libs have done to his Navy. I miss him dearly, but I am glad that he has not had to watch what has happened to our country.... it would have broken his heart.
I’m sure all the sailors on this ship will be armed with perfume and the weapon systems will be replaced with flower gardens.
Our enemies will tremble...
It’s crew is liberal, gay, and female, and has no weapons.
With her stand on gun control I hope it’s an unarmed garbage scow!
‘USS Sinking Fast’
Oh for f***s sake. Are they going to christen it the St. Gabby?
What is not mentioned in the article are certain very basic problems associated with the design of this particular ship. This ship will be unable to maneuver readily in close quarters, especially important in a 'littoral' craft, due to its inability to turn to starboard. As it can only turn to port, maneuvering will involve moving the ship fore and aft while steering the rudder to port. Another issue with its design is that it is strictly a 'lightweight'.
