ALBANY -- As the legislature began the process of enacting a new state budget Sunday, its top Republican said Sunday they effectively will cancel a ban on the sale of gun and rifle magazines larger than seven rounds that was set to take effect April 15.
In doing so, Senate co-leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) confirmed a plan lawmakers outlined last week.

They must be scared of a court challenge.
Believe it when ya see it . . .
Stupid ass. It’s called a magazine.
A clip is something else entirely.
Any wonder why those ignoramus lawmakers got it wrong??
I believe you will still be able to buy 10 round mags, but it will be a crime to load more than 7 rounds in them.
Are they still trying to figure out how to re-legalize all the high capacity mags carried by law enforcement? Wouldn’t be surprised if they determined they were going to have troubles getting that through.
Yes, they are squirming a way to do that.
Wasn’t a soldier arrested for being in violation of this? What happens to him?
Maybe Sandy Hook fever is starting to wear off.
Thanks Red Steel.
Using the logic of these morons in Albany, I should be able to buy a 30 round mag if I only load 7 rounds in it.
I hope the lawsuits completely embarrass Cuomo. I also hope it forces NY to revoke the AWB Pataki put into law. Since the day Coumo’s idiotic law was signed, I have been looking for a job out of here. Coumo no longer makes us feel welcome in our home state.
We’ve not had a major 2A challenge to SCOTUS since Heller (individual right) and McDonald (incorporation to states). I think we need to go after most of NY’s gun control laws, not just the latest, maybe even parts of their Sullivan Act.
Stupid ass. Its called a magazine.
A clip is something else entirely.”
If they had either Maxine Waters or Sheila Jackson Lee as their Rep, they would say you don’t know what you are talking about. A magazine is something you read and a clip is something you put in your hair.
That happened 1 February... and the law isn't in effect yet?
I concur= The Sullivan Act is unconstitutional period.- Cancel every gun law which are stolen bricks in the structure of the Bill of Rights since 1922 NY State. All these commies in Albany and NYC have arned bodyguards. We all got armed bodyguards here, too.- they are called ARMED NEIGHBORS.
We don’t have to challenge these laws country-wide. Kill all of NY’s laws and set a nationwide precident. We need to declare legal war on NY.
So, I guess that leaves Colorado as the only state still planning on enacting this idiocy. (Anyone have any leads for an analog/RF electronics and optoelectronics engineer, say, in the south east coast?)
that,s for law abiding citizens. so the criminals load ten. law abiding citizens 7. How stupid can these elected morons get.
No. The arrest was for the law as it stood before Cuomo's crap was passed. NYS already had a ban on large capacity magazines. He's awaiting trial.
There is the "Heller II" case. Court of Appeals, DC Circuit, decided near the end of 2011. The decision was appealed to SCOTUS, and SCOTUS denied cert.
We conclude the District has carried its burden of showing a substantial relationship between the prohibition of both semi-automatic rifles and magazines holding more than ten rounds and the objectives of protecting police officers and controlling crime. Accordingly, the bans do not violate the plaintiffs' constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
You aren’t an engineer. You are a magician.
Oddly, some of the people I work with call me a magician too. But if I were a magician, I could conjure up a job somewhere else.
The NYers really hung those Colorado senators who supported this for them out to dry, didn't they ?
They're all going to be facing recall elections, the two laws are going to be up for repeal on petitions; and even liberal Coloradonas will remember why you never trust anyone from the East coast..
“It’s the economy, stupid!”
