A proposal to study how violent video games may be affecting the minds of youngsters has stalled

WASHINGTON — The gun lobby isn’t the only group throwing its weight around trying to thwart President Obama’s plans to combat gun violence.

Even a modest proposal to study how violent video games might be affecting young minds has quietly run aground, the victim, sources say, of opposition by the burgeoning video game industry — a $67 billion colossus with increasing clout in Washington.

When they come for my guns, ok. When they come for my computer games, all hell will break loose.

A circa 1982 analysis sticks in my head:

1. A KGB plot to destroy the minds of American youth.

2. A CIA plot to teach American youth to shoot without remorse.

Take your pick.

Garbage.
Even if disturbed kids are drawn to video games, there are millions of kids of all ages (4-104+) who play games without ever doing anything terrible in real life.
Violence have been with us long before video games, role playing games, TV, Radio, Books, Gladiator Games and so on.
By far, most people know the difference between fantasy and reality.
Liberals don't trust us to do so, and attempts to protect us from ourselves, again. Or so they say.
It's just another attempt to smear a successful industry by blaming it for the actions of a few nut cases.
Wouldn't the lawyers love to get their hands on all that cash.

How much will the study cost? Will it become another boondoggle using lots and lots of public funds keeping a bunch of social “scientists” flush with money for years?

And what will be done if it is “discovered” that violence in video games breeds violence in society?

They’re not going to forbid the production of these games because there is too much money involved. Will they also recommend stopping the production of violent Hollywood movies and TV plays?

The study will be completely useless and will only benefit a bunch of PhDs and keep them off the streets at public expense.

The researchers say that they will get right back on the job once their Halo 3 Team Tourney has been decided.

I don’t play video games, but when I was four years old (1950) neighbor gave me a wooden copy of a Thompson sub machine gun he had made.

I have been ruined ever since!

“...President Obama’s plans to combat gun violence”

They are NOT plans to combat gun violence. He KNOWS his plans as proposed will have virtually no affect on it. They are, purely and simply, plans to ultimately disarm the public. Period!

Personally, I’d like to see the video game business SHUT DOWN permanently. I’ve seen too many kids with their lives ruined because of it...they just stay at home, well into their 20s and play all day. Enough is enough, that crap is meth.

(sorry you gamers, but I have kids)

My games must be defective - I’ve been playing for several decades and I haven’t killed anyone.

“Then be a good parent and stay out of my business.”

Not when people like you let their kids run the lives of my kids.

Sorry...that’s where I take notice.
