Adventures in Manipulative Polling (amnesty)

Brookings has put out the latest example of bogus immigration polling. Here’s the New York Times lede: [New York Times]

Nearly two-thirds of Americans favor giving illegal immigrants in the country an opportunity for legal status with a path to citizenship, according to a poll published Thursday by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Brookings Institution. Support for an earned path to citizenship for those immigrants came from 71 percent of Democrats and also a majority, 53 percent, of Republicans, the poll found.

Oh, my. I guess our goose is cooked, the end is near, we’ve reached the tipping point for amnesty.

But, before starting to look for a new job, just for giggles I decided to see what the actual question said. You have to get to p. 53 of the report to find it, and here are the only options offered to respondents:

The best way to solve the country’s illegal immigration problem is to secure our borders and arrest and deport all those who are here illegally

The best way to solve the country’s illegal immigration problem is to both secure our borders and provide an earned path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

You remember the presidential candidate proposing that we “arrest and deport all those who are here illegally,” don’t you? No? That’s because there wasn’t one. And yet almost every establishment poll asks the question this way, contrasting cattle cars full of weeping babies to the option of “earning” status by working hard, paying back taxes, and rescuing stranded kittens.

We did a poll last month with more neutral and honest wording. (I’m afraid it wasn’t featured in the New York Times.) Here’s the wording of our comparable question: “Would you prefer to see illegal immigrants in the United States go back to their home countries or be given legal status?” The results were 52-33 for going back home.

There is a concerted effort to mislead, not only by the usual suspects on the left, but sadly, many of our own side who loudly call themselves conservative.

We are being stabbed in the back!

And the question Kirkorian asked and polled is the accurate one. The Brookings poll is pushing a political idea and not polling....it is a loaded question

And the GOP better wake up and cut the Amnesty nonsense. They are basically giving the House to the Dems in 2014

“We are being stabbed in the back!”

Please note who the ‘stabbers’ are. Thanks!

Fools to the left of us, Fools on the right - stuck in the middle with Amnesty!

The R party elitists and blind supporters, big donors and all the rest are habituated to the status quo. The status quo path is leadin the country to hell in a hand basket.

It’s due to money, being drunk on power and elitism, money, and being an insider. It’s just as evil a program/mentality as the Dems/progressives/socialists/commies. Absolutely just as bad. They don’t want anything to upset “the way things are” - not Palin, not the facts presented by Zullo and Arpaio, nothing.

But nothing stays the same...

Wonder if they would confirm the polling with a voter referendum?

Same challenge to the polling support for gay marriage.

New world order, the more you dig up on Brookings the more you'll be... well.. you'll realize Americans are REALLY being stabbed in the back.

Interesting how today so many say new world order is a false conspiracy theory, but they do not know the whole history of the founding and leadership of an organization like Brookings. And they do not know how extensive a web of ties to other nwo organizations it has.

It is politicall bad for the GOP to win the senate in 2014. They need to win the south and Montana. 70-80% of those people in those states would oppose amnesty.

Most the public agrees with cutting off jobs and welfare and some of them will return to the homeland. Imagine all the illegals that would have stayed if the original 2006 bill was passed. There are illegals who have self deported because the jobs and welfare have dried up. The Mexico economy is in okay shape.
