is this volcanic/tectonic action putting any stress on the azores-gibralter fault? Yeah. IMO, increased geological actions affecting El Hierro are at work on other structures, worldwide, as well. El Hierro just happens to be closest to the action and more susceptible.
The island of El Hierro is the proverbial canary in the coalmine... ;)

We need sensitive CO2 and electromagnetic sensors in place now and start determining the mechanism at work here.
